youtube adpocalypse
[18:32:44] <+flameboi> fuck youtube and its adpocalypse
[18:33:16] <+flameboi> where do the firearms channels go now if they are in danger of a srtike anytime
[18:33:17] <+flameboi> :(
[18:33:37] <+flameboi> their head is way up above in thir ass
[22:15:00] <Ram> flameboi: liveleak, vimeo, dailymotion, streamable, facebook video, their own websites
[22:15:07] <@Ram> There's not really a lack of options
[22:15:40] <@Ram> Reddit also does video uploads now, right?
[22:15:53] <+flameboi> I didn't mean live leak kinda firearm videos
[22:15:59] <@Ram> tbh we rely too much on youtube as the single streaming platform
[22:16:29] <+flameboi> do they provide the cideo uploaders money?
[22:16:30] <@Ram> Heck, CR even streams their non-anime videos through youtube
[22:16:32] <+flameboi> video*
[22:16:49] <@Ram> Literally a video streaming platform
[22:16:52] <+flameboi> because many have only that as their cource of living
[22:16:56] <Ram> flameboi: does youtube? Or do other websites?
[22:17:00] <+flameboi> also >fb video
[22:17:20] <+flameboi> youtube earns them money through ads
[22:17:23] <@Ram> Not sure if you've noticed this, but not all work is worthy of getting paid for.
[22:17:57] <@Ram> you don't have the right to get paid for any and all work
[22:18:54] <@Ram> And anyone who gets into youtube as a sole source of income knows just how fidgety that is
[22:19:00] <+flameboi> so it's like "because youtube starting paying them money its become an option for a full time job" and that resulted in not that worthy of getting paid working opportunities?
[22:20:01] <+flameboi> there are good channels though, not all is trash there
[22:20:10] <@Ram> I know that
[22:20:17] <@Ram> I watch many youtubers myself
[22:20:20] <+flameboi> ads as a soure of money is a bad design imo
[22:20:32] <@Ram> Do you pay for youtube red?
[22:20:55] <+flameboi> no, didnt see any reason for that
[22:21:12] <@Ram> It's an alternative to ads
[22:21:22] <@Ram> Also creators make more off red subscribers
[22:21:46] <@Ram> But in the end, youtube didn't even pay creators until 4 or 5 years into their business
[22:22:03] <@Ram> And up until 3 or 4 years ago it was only partners, an extremely select program
[22:22:23] <@Ram> Then they opened the floodgates to p much anyone, which has its pros and cons
[22:22:41] <+flameboi> so videos taken down from ad revenue streams for channels are available for youtube red subscribers?
[22:22:51] <@Ram> No
[22:23:10] <+flameboi> thats a problem then
[22:23:17] <Ram> flameboi: youtube has a terms of service which you may or may not agree with but must abide by as a creator and a user
[22:23:29] <@Ram> If you do not like it, do not give youtube your business
[22:24:07] <@Ram> Youtube is a private company who has to negotiate with advertisers. If they fail to do so properly, it's not just the firearms channels that'll lose all revenue
[22:24:40] <+flameboi> I mean, their ToS updated recently resulting in adpocalypse, because of advertising companies and their bullshit, but Red doesn't have ads. So why does it have the same ToS and why arent those videos available to watch there?
[22:25:52] <@Ram> p sure youtube has a contact us button where you can ask questions like this
[22:26:04] <@Ram> It's likely compounding factors
