A Windows/Linux/macOS PowerShell Rustup Install Script

A Windows/Linux/macOS PowerShell Rustup Install Script

On Windows, run

& ([scriptblock]::Create((New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadString('https://gist.github.com/fnichol/699d3c2930649a9932f71bab8a315b31/raw/rustup-init.ps1')))

in a PowerShell session. This downloads and runs rustup-init.ps1, which in turn downloads and runs the correct version of the rustup-init executable on your platform. Note that this script will also run on Linux and macOS running PowerShell.

rustup-init accepts arguments, which can be passed through the script. Some examples:

# Temporary URL which mimicks future behavior at a location such as https://ps1.rustup.rs
$url = 'https://gist.github.com/fnichol/699d3c2930649a9932f71bab8a315b31/raw/rustup-init.ps1'

& ([scriptblock]::Create((New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadString("$url"))) --help
& ([scriptblock]::Create((New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadString("$url"))) --no-modify-path
& ([scriptblock]::Create((New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadString("$url"))) --default-toolchain nightly
& ([scriptblock]::Create((New-Object System.Net.WebClient).DownloadString("$url"))) --default-toolchain none

Note: A pull request has been submitted to the Rustup if this proves generally useful.

#!/usr/bin/pwsh
# This is just a little script that can be downloaded from the internet to
# install rustup. It just does platform detection, downloads the installer and
# runs it.
# XXX: If you change anything here, please make the same changes in
# `src/cli/setup_mode.rs` and `rustup-init.sh`. This keeps the usage output of
# the bootstrapping scripts consistent with the `rustup-init` executable.
