Today

Today is mother's day. We celebrated mother's day by having a long breakfast which extended into lunch. We had home cooked baked beans which I prepared the night before. This is the best baked beans I made so far. This is my third time to make the baked beans recipe and I think I nailed it this time. The stuff I did differently:

  • I used one onion instead of two. I minced the onion.
  • I let the onions and garlic soften -- that's 5 to 10 minutes before adding vinegar.
  • When I added vinegar, I let it sit for another 5 minutes.
  • I completely drained the beans of their juices.
  • I did not add extra water to the recipe.

It turned out very well. Nice and thick sauce. Oh, one more thing -- I seasoned it well -- meaning lots of salt and worcestershire sauce. Great!

This week I'm looking forward this week when I cook baked chicken wings for the family. Also, I bought ingredients to cook oatmeal raisin cookies. This is one of my favourite cookie recipes. This is my first time to make them. I hope I get it right and I have a good recipe to follow.

Also in the week ahead, I am looking forward to doing more and more body weight exercises. Thanks to my newly acquired Target pull up bar. I hope it really holds my weight when doing pullups, chinups and leg raises. I'm willing to work hard on my future self with a fit body. I am very much inspired with the blokes I see on twitter. They are the dads with great bods. They do the hard work and has everything to show for it.

Hmm, I feel like I'm over committing myself once again. I cook, I do my kettlebell exercises, I play the piano, plus I want to study and keep updated with the stuff in my career. It feels tiring. I can't do everything admittedly.

I heard somewhere that a man needs three things: A job, a hobby, and a sport. I have a job, I have lots of hobbies: cooking, baking, gardening, piano. Sport? I would like to think that doing kettlebell and body weight exercises is my sport. It's not a team sport and not competitive but it works my body which is what sport does to your body. So I'm lucky to have all three -- thing is that's one to many I think to manage. But I love doing them all.

Oh one more thing, last Friday I got very busy but I mananged to enjoy the day. I worked from home. I attended to my kids, I had our car checked for a faulty part, I had lunch with my friend and coffee after that, then did nothing at all Friday night and just relaxed. We left all the dirty dishes in the sink and on the table. I attended to it in the morning which was very productive. To be honest, I really missed having a friend around.

Tomorrow

  • Another workweek ahead, I sure hope to be prepared with the challenges for the week.
  • I aim to solve the pesky bug that covers the bet stake in Mystery bet. It should scroll up when the keyboard appears. Should be simple enough but the implementation eludes me right now.
  • I think I'll be cooking chicken wings when I arrive tomorrow.
