How the day went down

  • The day started early for me, as usual I drove the wife to the office. Good thing, her office is right next to Bunnings. I did some man shopping today.

  • At Bunnings, I bought garden stuff. This is the first time I went crazy on a shop and bought stuff that I actually need and has purpose in my life. I am very happy with all the stuff I bought today. I think these will keep me busy for the rest of autumn. Here's the stuff I bought:

    • Four sacks of black-dyed mulch -- the neighbours have this and it looks so good in their garden. That's what I bought even though it's not the cheapest thing out there.

    • A new pot plant for our living room: peace lily -- a cheap but beautiful one. It replaced a dying bird of paradise. It was infected with fungus. Time to retire the poor old thing. The peace lily is a very good buy @ $13 and it really sparks joy in the area.

    • De-weeding hoe, garden bags, shovel.

    • I went back for a second round and bought a rake -- I find that the rake was the best thing I bought. It like scoured the ground and I was able to clear the ground of unwanted stuff very quickly. I am glad I bought the steel rake because the plastic ones won't last 5 minutes in the garden.

  • When we got home, I wasn't able to work on the garden immediately. The real estate broker came to our house and discussed the possibilities of us owning a home in the near future. It turns out we really have to come up with atleast 55 000 AUD to buy a decent house here in Melbourne. It's a bit steep but we'll come up with the money given we save up consistently. We got this.

  • Our broker invited us to Eynesbury -- I'm happy we went there. We get to see some property. It means we're close. It's an off the plan purchase which means you buy land then after some time you settle the land when you're ready to build a house. We'll keep on looking for the property that's right for us. We'll keep saving as well. It will come to us. On the way there -- we went through a rough road which is not a good experience. It still scares the shit out of me.

🌱 Gardening

Tomorrow, I'll continue to fix the garden. I will write to our landlord and tell them about my project. I'll ask for some support -- I want to request a green bin. I'm happy to take care of the garden given that they give me a green bin.

Right now, I just want to bring up the garden's state where it's pleasing to look at. No weeds -- just a clean slate so we could bring it up a notch. Here's the stuff I need to do tomorrow to rehabilitate the garden:

  • Trim the existing plants that I decided to keep

  • Clear out the unwanted debris from the area I'm working on -- either put it in a bag or just transfer it to the rest of the garden pile

  • Lay down some cardboard on the bigger areas, lay down newspaper in the smaller areas and around the plants

  • Fun part -- cover the newspaper and cardboard with the mulch I bought

  • Take a picture of the whole thing once done

Next week -- repeat the process to another section of the garden. I want to bring in a fire pit in the backyard so we can hang out there in the fall or winter and have fun outside burning stuff. I love it. It will be so 🔥
