Guiding Questions to Define The Relationship:

  • What are each of our learning goals for this project? What drives us in this project? Trisha - have a great partner experience with Foster because this will be my last partner/group project at Turing. Technology-wise, I would like more practice with implementing knex syntax to get data that we want (rather than getting the whole database, then cleaning data to display). Foster - I would like additional practice and repetition with knex and SQL
  • What is your collaboration style? How do you feel about pair programming vs. divide-and-conquer approaches? Trisha - I prefer working side by side with my partner so we both get the benefits of learning whatever it is that we're working on. For this project, however, because there are some outside circumstances, e.g. job interviews, I think remote work and possibly dividing and conquering may be better so we have the capacity to focus on some of our outside commitments that we have as Mod 4 students. Foster - balancing outside commitments will make this project a bit harder to collaborate next to each other, but I plan to stay in strong communication while doing some divide and conquer
  • How do you communicate best? How do you appreciate receiving communication from others? Trisha - I feel strongly about checking in daily. For the format of this, I like celebrating a win we experienced in the last day, an appreciation for the other person, and what our next steps are. This is also an opportunity to ask for help if we've been stuck on something for a while. I prefer regular (daily, at a minimum) communication from my partners, and I do best with Slack, including in the evenings. Foster - quick replies and strong communication are important to me. I plan to keep up that communication here
  • How would you describe your work style? Trisha - I struggle to work when I'm around my friends (unless we're working on something together), so I will likely find a quiet place to work at Turing when we divide tasks. I tend to go to the cubby room because there's less stimuli. Foster - I struggle to work at home but work best in coffee shops and active places...though I definitely need headphones.
  • What are each of our strengths? How can our strengths complement each other? Trisha - I really love that high-level vision and breaking it down into smaller tasks (but like mini-sprints). I'm strong with time management and overall organization, so I'll be good at keeping us on task and evaluating realistic deadlines. Foster - I'm very open to all feedback. I listen intently to my project partner's views and any concerns. I am responsible to my project partner
  • What’s gone well or poorly in your previous projects? Trisha - Most of my projects have gone really well. The only one that went poorly was when my partner was MIA for days, and I was unsure on whether or not to move on without him. As long as we have frequent communication and an understanding of delegated tasks, I'll be good! I also want to make sure we don't get stuck on something for too long. My limit is usually a couple hours (at most), then I think we should seek help. Foster - getting stuck has definitely happe Trello
  • How do you want the group to solve problems when members run into issues with features of the project? We are going to try to figure out the problem on our own (if we're working separately), but no longer than 30 minutes. Then, we'll ask each other. If we still can't figure it out after another 30 minutes, we'll ask our classmates and/or post about it in our Slack channel.
  • How do you know if a project is successful? How can we achieve that as a group? We'll feel success by meeting the deadlines that we set for ourselves and meet our personal learning goals.
  • How will we recognize each other's successes and celebrate them? In our daily stand-ups, we'll recognize our own successes, cheer for the other person's successes and point out gratitudes ned in past but I also like to move on once stuck for a certain amount of time. Constant communication and quick replies are imnportant to success
  • How will we set direction and make decisions as a team? We will make big decisions together and talk through those things in person. If they can't happen that way, though, one of us can make a draft and get feedback from the other person. In our daily standups, it will be helpful to speak to any decisions we made and why we made them (or solicit feedback if there's something we're thinking about doing and haven't implemented yet).
  • How will we overcome obstacles? Daily standups will be really helpful, especially if there's anything one of us is struggling with. As soon as we feel we're struggling with something, let's commit to bringing it up at those standups so we can be on the same page with one another and talk through it. If there's something urgent that can't wait until our next standup, let's commit to messaging or talking to one another so we don't go down a spiral of doom.
  • What do you need (resources, environment, communication) to do your best work? Trisha - Quiet environment and clear, frequent communication that will explicitly delegate tasks between the two of us. Foster - frequent communication and set place to work without distractions
  • What scheduling restraints do you have? What are your scheduling preferences? Trisha - I have a dentist appointment in the evening of 2/4 (pending the snow) and a meetup the evening of 2/5. Other than that, I usually arrive to school between 8-8:30 and can stay as late as needed every other day. I am also available to come in all day on Saturday and/or Sunday. Foster - I have an all day job interview on friday Feb 7 that has many assignments attached to it. I'm trying to balance those assignments with these project assignments.
  • What is your style for giving feedback? Does anything ever hold you back from giving feedback? Trisha - I like in-person feedback, regardless of the situation. I try to ask a lot of follow up questions when I'm giving feedback (instead of just giving it), so I can figure out what's going on instead of making assumptions. Foster - I'm very open to feedback and listening to my partner. I prefer to listen but will be open to providing feedback when necessary
  • What do you identify as being your biggest strength(s) technically, as they relate to this project? Where do you feel you could use improvement in your technical skills, as they relate to this project? How can our team help support you in improving these skills? Trisha - I'm a little nervous about testing Hooks because of what I've heard, but I'm excited to implement them! I am also excited about BE testing. I also feel like I could use some more practice with the knex syntax, since in the last project, I just got the whole databse and then used iterator methods to get what I needed. Foster - I followed lesson plan pretty closely so I feel a small amount of comfort with BE syntax...but it also seems easy enough to understand. The logic behind implementation makes sense to me and excited to continue practice
  • What tools do you want to use to manage the project?for one another. We're really excited to work together!
