APT Training - 4-17-2019

Introduction

My name is Frank Pigeon and I am one of the maintainers of the Automated Publishing Tool(APT).

Preview of the new public homepage which incorporates the US Web Design System.

Navigation

Overview of the APT for newcomers in the audience.

The Dashboard is where you'll be taken when you first login.

Middle Column shows the pages you are able to edit as a Content Manager.

Right Column show the pages that you are able to review as Content Approver.

Click on a page that you are able to edit and you are presented with the Page Dashboard.

In the main grid you see the content section.

On the aside, you see meta data pertinent to this page.

Helpful links will show you the:

  • Preview of the page with the new design system.
  • Document Admin will allow you to upload documents for consumption on your page.
  • Page History will give you a record of changes to your page and approval timestamps.

HTML Editor

We have replaced the html editor from the old APT with tinyMCE which is the battle-tested editor used in WordPress.

What that means for you is some nice new features which we'll go over next.

Basics

HTML Editor is just like MS Word as far as formatting features.

Don't use MS Word since it will carry over formatting not compatible with the web.

  • Internal Links

Youtube Embed

AMEDDC&S YouTube

Document Library

Upload three documents and link them in editor.

PDF is a universal format.

Moving Content from Production

Migrate the APPD page from live with the editor.

Vetting Process

Three amigos vet content prior to it going live -> normal

Staging period until 13 May until we oush all content live
