Fully Stacktastic Developer

Full-stack Software Developer

Are you a passionate web developer who is curious, loves challenges, and loves/can learn to love developing in Python and Javascript? We are looking for you!

Who we are

We are Second Funnel - a small, growing startup making the web more visually interesting and relevant. We believe advertising currently sucks, but can be made awesome. Or at least less terrible. How? Through visuals that peek curiousity and lead to interesting, engaging content (think Reddit meets marketing).

Our visual marketing platform is used by top brands (Gap, Samsung) and retailers (NewEgg) to engage their audience and find new customers.

Our team is distributed across North America, from Silicon Valley to Waterloo, Ontario.

Who are you?

  • You are curious. You get excited to work on tough problems, and coming up with interesting solutions. You're an early adopter; an innovator; you've tried all sorts of different languages and technologies; you're that person who's always tinkering on something. You're not a code monkey--you solve problems!
  • You are passionate. We might find you on StackOverflow asking and answering questions, hacking away at an open-source project on Github, or writing about software development or something else awesome on your blog. You get excited about technology.
  • You think like your user. You empathize with their needs, wants and desires. If they are young, you give them animated gifs. If they are flamboyant, you give them color. If they have ADHD, you give them sub-second load times. You want to know what makes them tick, why they click, and how to get them to click on more things... for science.
  • You love challenges & are tenacious. You get excited about working on new and different projects. When life gives you lemons, you make life rue the day it thought it could give you lemons!

What will you be working on?

You will be buiding a digital marketing engine that uses the best visual content to turn browsers into shoppers. We combine marketing technologies to create a beautiful web experience that makes online shopping fun & entertaining.

Under the hood, we use recommendation engines to guess a customer's intentions, generate dynamic advertisments which optimize the placement of rich content, and contriute to open-source tools (we are trying to make the world a better place, of course). We're built primarly on JavaScript, Python, and Django, powered by technologies like AWS, Ansible, and Gulp!

Why you should join us

  • See the immediate impact. We're a small team. We push code daily which goes live immidiately. Your work is visible to the world - everyone you know will be able to see it.
  • Ownership of your work. You will be working on projects that directly affect the success of the company, and more importantly, you will have a lot of say in how projects get done.
  • You pick your hours. We want you to set the hours that work best for you. We accommodate all hours that overlap with our core hours of 10:30am to 3:30pm.
  • Flexible location. We operate as a virtual team, with team members located throughout North America. It's fun to work out of the Kitchener office, but you can be anywhere as long as you're logged in to Hipchat.
  • Workations! A few times a year we bring the team together someplace awesome to work and play. Recent locations include Ontario cottage-country, Lake Tahoe, CA and Santa Cruz, CA.
  • Competitive compensation & great benefits. We offer competitive salaries, great equity compensation, and great benefits (we went a little crazy with the massage therapy...)
