As part of the application to the QGIS certification program, I'd like to show you my contributions to QGIS project.
(Version 2023.05.23)
- Development/commits to QGIS
- I've been involved in QGIS development as official core contributor since 2009. You can see my contributions in both the old Trac system and GitHub.
- Contributions to the QGIS documentation and training materials
- QGIS documentation
- My main contribution to QGIS documentation is carried in the GIS StackExchange website, where I lead the PyQGIS tag.
- Additionally, I've done a minor contribution to the PyQGIS Cookbook.
- Some years ago I published a number of blog posts on PyQGIS in the GeoTux website.
- Training materials
- Along with Matthias Kuhn, I conducted a workshop called "Introduction to Python plugin development for QGIS 3" (in Spanish) in 2018, which is available at Youtube.
- QGIS documentation
- Translation of QGIS materials
- I'm both a QGIS translator and reviewer for the Spanish language in Transifex.
- I'm QGIS Docs and Website translator for the Spanish language in Transifex.
- This is my Transifex profile.
- Authoring plugins
- I'm the author of a number of QGIS plugins like Load Them All, Append Features to Layer, Invisible layers and groups, Remove empty layers from the map, AutoFields (finished, as this functionality is now in QGIS Core) and Copy layers and groups to clipboard (finished, as this functionality is now in QGIS Core), among others.
- I've also contributed to other QGIS plugins, mainly to QGIS Model Baker, which I showed off in a workshop at FOSS4G 2019 in Bucharest.
- From 2017 to 2022, I worked for the Swiss Cooperation in Colombia creating and coordinating the development of a plugin called Asistente LADM_COL, for Colombian "multi-purpose cadastre". I presented the plugin at FOSS4G 2019 in Bucharest.
- Filing bug reports
- Find my bug reports at GitHub and at the old Redmine.
- Financial contributions to and sponsorship of QGIS
- Geoideal S.A.S. is a small QGIS sponsor in 2023.
- Involvement in your local QGIS User Group
- I'm one of the founders of QGIS Colombia (officially registered in 2018).
- I was the president of QGIS Colombia from 2018 to 2020.
- I'm the current country representative person.
- Publication of open QGIS course ware
- I've shared original materials and slides of my 15-hours course "Introduction to PyQGIS development" ("Introducción al desarrollo con PyQGIS", in Spanish) with the community. Materials include original plugins (e.g. "Test" plugin) as well as GIS.SE answers.
NOTE to admins:
As you can see, contributions to QGIS project (and therefore, the application itself to certification program) are mainly individual. In the developer meeting in Bucharest 2019, I remember someone (perhaps Nathan via Internet) suggested that official certifications should be tied to individuals, rather than organizations. I agree with him, since an individual could leave (or simply not be active anymore in) an organization, but could continue his work contributing to QGIS from another organization. Please take that into account for the future.
