Storytelling Reflection

  1. Describe your 3-act arc by answering these three questions in 1-2 paragraphs:
  • Who are you: Consider describing:

    • How your values and perspective have driven you to come to Turing

    • Your Pairin themes

    • How you've seen yourself grow during this module at Turing

    • I am someone who likes to be challenged and enjoy the opportunities that affords. Coming to Turing has offered a challenge that throughout my weeks here has dynamically changed along with me to be an ever evolving problem to tackle that is both intriguing and humbly frustrating. Starting from a point where I felt comfortable in week 1 to a broader understanding of the larger scope of what I have yet to learn is overwhelming, however as I have progressed through these first weeks I have noticed less of a concern as to what the next problem is and more of an emphasis on what problems I am currently facing. With each new day I am finding the struggle to both be difficult and rewarding in different ways that I am coming to appreciate more.

  • Why are you here: Consider describing:

    • When have you struggled at Turing? How have you dealt with struggle?

    • When have you succeeded at Turing? How did you accomplish those successes?

    • While at Turing there have been times that I have struggled with technical details and other times that I have struggled with general mood/attitude. In the technical aspect I have found that it was easy to ask for help from other class-mates and higher mods, and even going so far as to get my mentors involved to help get unstuck. As far as general mood and attitude, I have found that worrying about things out of my control has led to more stress than it is worth. So to combat that I've taken on more of the approach to worry about things that I can control and not worry about all of the what if scenarios. This has also led to taking smaller steps and being more open to changing mid-plan to an alternate course of action which has more easily allowed me to stay on track to accomplishing some task rather than being stuck on something.

  • What's next: Consider describing:

    • Your vision statement for what you see as your place in the tech industry and how your journey into this new career ends

    • This is a harder question to answer, I am not sure where I will end up in this industry. My hope is to contribute in a meaningful way to improve not only myself, but also any team that I get to work with. My hope is to be able to bring a different perpsective, contribute positively to a project, and successfully transition to a well rounded developer. Based on what I have seen so far in my time here at Turing, I believe that it is possible that I will be in a mentor type role once I get my feet under me in the industry.

  1. After you practice storytelling in the session, answer this question: What was particularly easy or difficult about telling your story? What are 1-2 steps that you can take to continue to improve your abilities to tell your story, talk about yourself with ease, and examine your strengths?
  • It's hard to talk about myself, I don't normally like the spotlight to be on me at all and this forces it to be that way. Going forward I am trying to learn to let it affect me less as it is an upleasant feeling overall, but one I need to come to terms with in one way or another.
