ruby-1.9.3-p327 cumulative performance patch for rbenv

ruby-1.9.3-p327 cumulative performance patch for rbenv

This installs a patched ruby 1.9.3-p327 with various performance improvements and a backported COW-friendly GC, all courtesy of funny-falcon.

Requirements

You will also need a C Compiler. If you're on Linux, you probably already have one or know how to install one. On OS X, you should install XCode, and brew install autoconf using homebrew.

Sass/Less Comparison

In this document I am using Sass's SCSS syntax. You can choose to use the indented syntax in sass, if you prefer it, it has no functional differences from the SCSS syntax.

For Less, I'm using the JavaScript version because this is what they suggest on the website. The ruby version may be different.

OSX McAfee Removal

Removal of McAfee from OSX

Note: This was written in 2015, it may be out of date now.

There are a lot of commands here which I use sudo if you don't know what you're doing with sudo, especially where I rm you can severely screw up your system.

There are many reasons which you would want to remove a piece of software such as McAfee, such as not wanting it to hammer your CPU during work hours which seems like primetime for a virus scan.

I intend this to be a living document, I have included suggestions from peoples' replies.

Using SQLite to store OpenAI vector embeddings from Ruby
# Example of using SQLite VSS with OpenAI's text embedding API
# from Ruby.
# Note: Install/bundle the sqlite3, sqlite_vss, and ruby-openai gems first
# OPENAI_API_KEY must also be set in the environment
# Other embeddings can be used, but this is the easiest for a quick demo

ESP32 hacking notes

Basic hookup

As I plan to make a custom breakout board I wanted to solder as few connections as possible. I was able to boot the device, with UART (out at least) soldering the following.

PIN NAME
0 GND
1 3V3

OSX Dock Spacers

Huh?

Some MacOS users have very cluttered Docks & wish they could organize them without removing any App icons from the mix.

This snippet will add an empty "spacer" that you can drag around and use to separate icons into groups! See example.

Command

Paste this into your Terminal. Run the command for additional placeholders!
