I have helped the Nepali tech diaspora in Australia earn +$540000 in the past 3 years, how?

By helping people land their first tech/coding jobs. Let's do the maths. I have helped, let's say 15 people land their first tech or programming job in Australia. They will earn at least 50% more than what they earned doing casual jobs. Those low-skill jobs (with full respect to people doing it) usually pay at the minimum wage (or a bit above it) - say if the minimum hourly wage was $20.736 in 2019 (it was 19.49), so that is weekly $788.08 (38 hrs/week) and yearly $48000.

So $48000 * 1.5 = $72000, which will be $24000 more earning per year per person. Keep in mind, that 50% more pay is for working 38-40 hours per week in normal work hours (9 AM-5 PM) not working 6:30 AM-2:30 PM shifts or late nights. On top of that, mostly work from home in the safety of your home in the midst of the pandemic in 2020-2021. Yes, Sydney was in lockdown in mid-2021 and Q3 of 2021.

If you think $72000 is more, might be in a couple of cases where a Junior software engineer was paid $70000 but I know people who have been paid $80000 or even $100000 for their first tech role. Of course, the one who got $100000 was super talented and lucky + a well-paying company. To verify the $70000 thing, go to seek then type "junior software engineer" and search for jobs with $70000+ salary, I found 700+ jobs. Of course, visa and PR is an issue and I am oversimplifying it, but that is a different topic. The key number here is $24000 more earning per person per year.

Now if we multiply $24000 per year by 15 people it is $360000 annually.

And I helped people find better-paying jobs (coding/tech) since 2019. Even if it is from 2019-2021, by Jun-2022 everyone would have been paid for FY 2021. Again let's make it half as people found jobs in different timings of 2019-2021 which equates to $360000 * 1.5 years = $540000. All maths is done before taxes and I am not even counting the pay rises, promotions, and job switches resulting in a better pay packet for the above 15 people.

Thereby, If I claim to have helped the Nepalese tech diaspora earn half a million $ more in 2019-2021 I won't be wrong.

Quick calculation recap

  • Min wage earning per year (working 38 hrs/week) = $48000
  • Working in tech general starting salary (38 hrs/week) = $72000 (so, 72000 - 48000 = 24000 /person/yr)
  • Helped 15 people, equates to 24000 *15 = 360000 / yr
  • Done it for 3 yrs, only counting half is 1.5 years, so 360000 * 1.5 = 540000

PS: If you are thinking I am making this up, the first comment has a list of name initials and companies people are working in right now, it has 17+ people who got their first tech job in Australia with company names and start dates.
