I got into management for two reasons:
1. Money
2. To make the place _I_ wanted to work.
I'm so full of myself that I think the place that I want to work is the place that you want to work. I bet I'm right.
I'd like to outline my guide for making a good development shop. We'll cover all of these topics:
* How to find a good job.
* How to hire good people.
* How to attract good people.
* How to keep your people good.
* How to equip your people so they are happy.
* How to setup an environment where your people will be appreciated and helpful.
* How to do good work.
* How to make money doing it.
I've been telling employers for years that I know how to handle this and it's high time I stood up and said it proudly to my peers.
Where applicable we'll even talk about how Perl can be of assistance. But really, this talk is bigger than Perl.
I'd especially like to get some feedback during this talk. I want to hear about some of the problems that you've faced as a candidate, developer, hiring manager or customer. I do NOT want to hear you whine. Let's talk real problems and how to solve them.
** NOTES **
I have NO IDEA how long to make this talk. You made a call for "workshop style" talks. Maybe this can be one.
