The Food and Drug Administration discovered that some of the drugs made there were contaminated and in April 2010 sent the manufacturer, Hospira, a warning letter. Arizona bought sodium thiopental from him in late September and used it the next month to execute a convicted murderer named Jeffrey Landrigan. California placed an order as well.",

The government balked. Stopping the shipment of a drug would hamper free trade and could be harmful to patients. Officials there wanted an anesthetic that Kayem made mostly for clients in Angola: sodium thiopental. Kayem sold Nebraska 500 vials, enough for more than 80 executions. Soon after, Foa\u2019s boss wrote the company to explain how Nebraska planned to use its product. JSON was 32.41KB and took 338ms to download. Downloaded directly from an IP address (31.13.77.6) instead of a domain—presumably to avoid the cost of DNS lookups.

Source Atlantic article is 43.25K on Mobile Safari. Took 57ms total to retrieve HTML document. Actually faster than the JSON.

As far as I can tell, the big difference is what Facebook doesn't download. That Atlantic article on desktop has 790 requests and 3.5MB transferred. Little harder to tell on phone because the proxy keep picking up other activity (e.g., icloud syncs, etc.), but even there it looks like 2.49MB and 58.53K.

Maybe I just picked a bad example.
