Chrome Extensions

Below is a list of Chrome extensions that I've found helpful, useful, or fun. There's a section for Chrome Extensions from Google.

General Chrome Extensions

  • Bitly - Link shortner that makes it easy to shorten, share, archive, and track links.
  • App Launcher - puts the google app launcher in your extension bar. big time saver if you use google apps/extensions frequently.
  • App Launcher Customizer - Allows you to customize the content that appears in the Google app launcher wherever you see it.
  • Library Sniffer - Tells you the technologies that power whatever website you're visiting.
  • Fireshot - Easy-to-use screenshot extension. Let's you capture portiosn of a page, the visible page, or the entire page.
  • Honey - Automatically applies discount codes to website checkout pages.
    • Rarely works on Amazon, but has worked for me in tons of independent store. Saved me $70 on a Vimeo subscription.
  • Project Naptha - must-have, lets you copy and paste text from within images.
  • Omnibox Timer - incredibly helpful for staying on task. Easily set a timer through the Chrome search bar (Omnibox) and get an alert when the timer expires.
  • App Launcher for Drive - Removes the need to ever download ms office files, lets you view everything right from chrome.
  • Momentum - If you don't already know, you're hopeless.
  • RescueTime - RescueTime for ChromeOS. Not needed if you've already installed RescueTime for Mac or Windows.
  • Keybase Chat - Makes it easy to start a Keybase chat through social profiles.
  • Speedtest by Ookla - Quickly check the speed of your own connection or a particular website.
    • These are the same guys who make the speedtest that is the first Google search result when you search "speed test"
  • Netflix Party - Watch Netflix remotely with friends
  • Better Browse for Netflix - Adds a "Browse All" menu item allowing you to easily browse the hidden Netflix sub-genres
  • Todoist - If you use this To-do list app, the extension is helpful for quickly adding things.

  • UberConference Screen Sharing - Required for screen sharing via UberConference.
  • Hubspot Sales - Must-have extension (if you use HubSpot). Notifies you of email opens, and also adds a variety of features to gmail such as automatic tracking, templates, and even an option to send emails later at a specific time.

By Google

  • Google Hangouts - Opens Google Hangouts in its own window.
  • G-Suite Training - Highly recommend. Installs a button on all google apps that shows you shortcuts, tips, tricks, hotkeys, etc. Complete with instructional videos and everything.
  • Google Keep - Quickly save stuff to Google Keep.
  • Google Tone - This one is just fun. Let's you broadcast URLs via sound to any computer within earshot.

  • Mindful Break - Click on this extension to launch a calming tip and a 1-minute breathing exercise.
  • Earth View - If you're not using Momentum for some odd reason, then use this one. Shows beautiful satellite imagery on every new tab page.

Opera Extensions

For those of you interested in the wide world of browsers beyond just Chrome, Firefox, and a couple others (there's one crappy one that comes complimentary with your iPhone purchase, and another crappy one that you have to use if you work at a company with >10,000 people), you should give Opera a try. It works very well, and there's some interesting feature choices that are pretty cool. Just like Chrome and Firefox, there's the standard Opera browser, as well as a Developer Preview version of Opera, so there's plenty to explore.

Regardless, if you do start playing around with Opera, make installing this opera extension the very first thing you do. This extension makes it possible to use any Chrome browser extension with Opera. So if you're looking at the list of Opera browser extensions and wondering why there's no second page of results, this is your answer.
