GROUP SIZE

For Creation Labs you should come with your students in 2 groups. For Artist Led tours and Off the Beaten Path tours, group sizes should usually be about 10 students per group.

CHAPERONES

Provide at least 1 responsible adult chaperone for every 10 students. The MCA may refuse admission to any group that does not meet the minimum chaperone requirement.

There are no lunch facilities at the MCA for student groups. However, the Water Tower Place is across the street and has a very large food court. Groups that would like to stay downtown a bit longer and have lunch may request a late pick up to go there.

LATE PICK UP REQUESTS

We allow schools to request a late departure time from the museum if you wish to spend more time downtown. Please see below for specifics.

All requests for late pick up must be sent 2 weeks prior to your visit.

High Schools have the option to walk around the museum independently with their students after the tour is over, or stay downtown a bit longer.

The latest possible departure time from the museum is 1pm.

CANCELLATIONS

In the event of a cancellation, you must notify me at least 48 hours in advance. Failure to give adequate notice will result in a $140 charge to your school. If there is an emergency please contact me directly.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR TOUR

All of our tours are inquiry led, and dialogue based. So the best way to prepare your students is to let them know to come ready to share their ideas and engage in discussion. Our teaching artists at the MCA are masters at facilitating discussion, and connecting the artwork on display to the students’ lives. Since our tours are discussion based, we ask that you please complete all written assignments at school.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR VISIT

When we discuss Contemporary Art on our school tours, we like to mention that contemporary in essence means “new”. The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (MCA) offers exhibitions of the most thought-provoking art created since 1945. The MCA documents contemporary visual culture through painting, sculpture, photography, video and film, and performance. Talk to your students about the art of their time, and what they find most interesting about contemporary art, and how it can be applied to their lives.
