----------Markdown is a lightweight and easy-to-use syntax for styling all forms of writing on the GitHub platform.
Markdown is a way to style text on the web. You control the display of the document; formatting words as bold or italic, adding images, and creating lists are just a few of the things we can do with Markdown. Mostly, Markdown is just regular text with a few non-alphabetic characters thrown in, like #
or *
.
Markdown Extra is a lightweight markup language based on Markdown implemented in PHP (originally), Python and Ruby. It adds features not available with plain Markdown syntax. Markdown Extra is supported in content management systems, for example Drupal, TYPO3 and MediaWiki.
It adds the following features to Markdown:
- Markdown inside HTML blocks
- Elements with id/class attribute
- Fenced code blocks
- Tables
- Definition lists
- Footnotes
- Abbreviations
