I had a large dataset in postgis and wanted to avoid the hassle of first exporting it to a several GB geojson file before tiling it with Tippecanoe.

ogr2ogr -f GeoJSON /dev/stdout \
PG:"host=localhost dbname=postgres user=postgres password=thepassword" \
-sql "select * from a, roi where a.geom && roi.geom" \
| docker run -i -v ${PWD}:/data tippecanoe:latest tippecanoe \
--output=/data/yourtiles.mbtiles
Recently, I use JMXterm to collect info about Java JVM via JMX and MBeans. Here is a short note.
- Download JMXterm
https://sourceforge.net/projects/cyclops-group/files/jmxterm/1.0.0/jmxterm-1.0.0-uber.jar/download
- Run JMXterm
java -jar jmxterm-1.0.0-uber.jar --url localhost:<jmx listen port>
- All MBeans from java.lang
$>domain java.lang

Upgrading PostgreSQL from 9.4 to 9.6 on Debian Jessie

To use the most modern version of Postgres software we need to add postgresql repository. Edit /etc/apt/sources.list or create /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pgdg.list and add there a line: deb http://apt.postgresql.org/pub/repos/apt/ jessie-pgdg main Then import the repository signing key, and update the package lists:

wget --quiet -O - https://www.postgresql.org/media/keys/ACCC4CF8.asc | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update

Install a new version of PostgreSQL server.

Once the Debian upgrade finished, I used dpkg-query -l postgresql* to check which versions of postgres I have installed.

git script to manually associate files in a conflicting merge when rename detection fails
#!/bin/bash
#
# Purpose: manually associate missed renames in merge conflicts
#
# Usage: git merge-associate <our-target> <base> <theirs>
#
# Example: After a failed rename detection A/a -> B/b which results
# in CONFLICT (delete/modify) for A/a and corresponding "deleted by us"
# messages in git status, the following invocation can be used to manually
# establish the link:
