Mod 3 Week 1 Career Journal

Refine your career vision: What are the values that will drive your job search?

I think some of the minimum values are: >= 70k, remote (at lease until covid is over), =< 40hrs/week, and the general "no child-labor/manufacturing death/irresponsible pollution". Other than that I have started to realize that conservation might not be an industry I can get into right off the bat. I think in this time, I need something stabe that can support me and my needs, and as I recover from student loans/take a breath after Turing I will be able to aim into a field that really suits me.

What are your goals for your job search?

I would like to find 2 jobs per week to at least send a mock-application to. I know I need to get a resume up and running before I do this.

What kind of role do you see yourself pursuing in your job search?

I've done a few "simple" job serches on linkedin and I think the job title I would be most qualified for/interested in is Junior Frontend Developer. I'm sure there would be others, but I think generally this encompasses everything I am currently bringing to the table.

Based on your latest version of your career vision, list the top 3-5 industries and companies you’ll pursue in your job search as of right now.

I am still having a hard time understanding which "industry" direction to go in. Some of my main deciding factors for looking for jobs are pay, location, and core values. And honestly, I don't know how much I care about the core values at this point. I think my job "filter" goes as such; "junior" front-end dev, pay > 70k, remote (for now at least). Once I get time to start applying to jobs, I will probably end up applying to any and all that meet this requirement.

Why did you pick these industries/companies? How do they relate to the values and goals you have for yourself in your job search?

Build your resume What will you emphasize in your resume that directly relates to your targeted industries? I want to emphasize that I want a remote job as a frontend dev, and that I would like to work for a company that has works towards making positive descisions for society and the planet. Pick a template from those listed in the Templates section here Order your content in this way: Header (Name + Software Developer OR Back End Engineer OR Front End Engineer, etc.) Contact info Summary Skills Projects Experience Education * Check out other resources here including the Resume Checklist * Link to your resume or include a screenshot here: Upload your resume to CV Compiler by following these steps:

Set up your Turing Alumni Portfolio: Log in with the link you got in your email. Going forward, log in at alumni.turing.io/user Fill out all fields Select “publish” before saving (projects must also have “published” selected) Reflection questions:

~~I have made a resume on two different sites that have then asked me to pay to download. Therefore I haven't used the above process yet. ~~ My resume is uploaded and ready to view.

What do you want this portfolio to say about you? I want my portfolio to display my ability to work remote, and that I am focused on my workflow and ability to work in a team.

How will you continue to add to this to portray your story and showcase the kind of work that demonstrates your brand? Obviously, I need to get my resume up and running first. I would also like to continue to work on bettering my workflow techniques (PRs, DTRs, commit history, etc).

Ian’s workshop this week is designed to help you break down your interest in specific industries even further by exploring their tech stacks to decide if you want to utilize any of their tools in upcoming projects. Make a copy of his template here and post a link to your copy here to show what research you’ve completed. You can also link this research to your Huntr board.

What resume site did you use? Canva usually has free options. When you get that resume can you update us?
