Mod 3 Prework
Please list the top 3-5 industries and companies you'll pursue in your job search as of right now.
When I first got into programming I thought I would eventually take it into something along the lines of conservationism. Now that I've had the time to reasearch a bit, I haven't found many, if any jobs in this field. Some are kind of there, most of them are philanthropic. I think this means I need to redifine my direction. Perhaps I will look less at an industry itself, but more at the values of companies, with directions such as using renewable energy, AI, and machine learning. I still plan on applying to as many jobs as I can, and probably will take the first one that fits. From there I will be more comfortable to search for that exact, right job for me. I might also consider looking into health care, however I want to aviod pharma.
Currently I was referenced a job at Pandora, and this is something I would like to follow through on. I don't believe I have the credentials (yet) for either positions that are open, but I do believe this would be a place I would like to work at as well. Maybe music, and UX/UI jobs in general might be more fun to jump into right out of school.
NREL (National Renewable Energy Lab) is another company thta I am currently looking into, although their open positions are for full stack. Will do mo research here.
Why did you pick the industries/companies that you listed above? How do they relate to the values and goals you have for yourself in your job search?
As mentioned above, origionally I wanted to go into conservation. I have a background in Firefighting and Parks & Rec (among similar others). These fields have really shown me how important the planet is, and are a large part of my desire to maintain it. After doing more research into programming I have found that this isn't as big of a field as I had hoped. I think now my goal is to instead aim for a company that shares values that I agree with and try to build from there. Maybe some day I will be able to start a company that can focus more on the health of the planet.
How does your LinkedIn currently reflect your goals and industry interests? What changes will you need to make to your LinkedIn to better reflect these?
I'm not acutally sure. I think I need more help with my linked in profile for this. I was under the assumption that my linked in profile "About" section should be short and to the point. Right now, mine references me as a student, what I am currently studying, and when I will graduate this program. I don't quite know where or how to add interests (I'm assuming this might be by following companies and pages that I have interests in). I will spend more time on my linked in profile in the upcoming days (with a mentor) to touch up and polish it as needed.
