FSSF Meeting Minutes, 2022/03/10 (March 10th, 2022)

This regular meeting of the F# Software Foundation Board was held over Slack (text chat) on March 10th, 2022, beginning at 4:00 PM UTC, ending at 5:00 PM UTC.

Votes are reported in the form “Y-N-A” (in favor-Y, opposed-N, abstentions-A; e.g. “5-1-2” means “5 in favor, 1 opposed, and 2 abstentions”).

Redactions may be used to protect information that has business sensitivity (e.g., negotiating positions), when a third party’s name is used without the third party’s knowledge (e.g., discussion of candidates for a volunteer position or award), or to protect the subject of personnel discussions.

Attendance

The following members (5/6) were present at the meeting, for its entire duration, unless otherwise specified:

  • Ryan Coy
  • Kevin Avignon
  • Phillip Carter
  • Janne Siera
  • Houston Haynes

[Not attending]

  • Reed Copsey

Topics Discussed

Discussion largely focused on the blog series and how the first entry from the community should be reviewed and approved. The submission ushered in for review by Janne is waiting for feedback from the board before it proceeds. Those remaining have committed to review that draft today (Thursday 10 March) and provide any notes.

Along those lines there was some discussion on the approval process for entries, which centered on ensuring that the content fell within the guidelines of the organization and to also provide constructive feedback to support those submitting articles for publication. As the project gains more momentum the board will firm up a structured process to balance the needs for vetting content and keeping a short time-to-publication.

There was some open discussion on whether the above blog series should be an extension of the FSSF site or if it should reside in its own domain. The general consensus among the group is to stay with a core-site-attached model and determine whether a standalone site is warranted after some momentum has developed with the program.

Kevin Avignon is kicking off the Spring mentorship round. This is the first time that the FSSF has sponsored a mentorship event this time of year, with the expectation that it both support mentors and mentees as well as amplify the peer-supportive nature of the F# community. There was some discussion around setting a firm schedule for the "seasons" of the mentorship program in order to have proper promotional/public awareness associated with the launch of each event. The board will take this up in future meetings to determine how best to schedule promotion of the program in F# circles as well as raise awareness with the broader software engineering community.
