This is the French press routine I've arrived at after experimenting for a while and talking to other coffee aficionados. Am I missing something? Comments welcome!
- French press. I use a Frieling 23oz stainless, but any will do.
- Measuring cup or food scale.
- Coarse grain coffee.
- Food thermometer. I use an infrared thermometer, but a kettle with a built-in thermometer will work too.
- Heat up your French Press and coffee mug(s) with hot water.
- Grind and measure coffee then sit it aside. Minimum of 1 gram of coffee for every 16 grams of water. Add more to your preference.
- Boil filtered water then let it drop down to 204 degrees (< 1 minute).
- Dump water from the French press and add in coffee
- Once the water temp hits 204 degrees, pour in enough water to cover coffee (4-6oz). Let this sit for about 15 seconds.
- Pour in the rest of the water and brew for 3:30.
- Plunge coffee slowly.
- Pour coffee into a seperate container so the coffee doesn't continue to brew.
- Enjoy!
