"description": "
GitHub is building the top Legal team on the planet and is looking for a superstar transactional and software licensing attorney to join its ranks.
\n\n
The Gig
\n\n
GitHub is the gateway for software development. Our impact and customers are global, and so is our vision. We're looking for someone who will materially advance our business and culture.
\n\n
Your role will be to support our growing Sales and Business Development teams as they ship GitHub to millions of customers around the globe as well as to build and manage processes and procedures commensurate with growing volume and scale.
\n\n
The overwhelming preference is for someone with a minimum of 4 to 7 years of strong experience negotiating software licensing agreements within a start-up and emerging company environment. You'll work closely with the rest of the Legal, Sales, and Business Development teams in organizing and developing processes that will scale, including building out playbooks, contract management, and the like.
\n\n
A wonkish and perhaps even freakish facility with commercial paper of all types is required, while a facility with internet law and open source software is a marked plus. You will need an otherwordly grasp of on-prem and SaaS software deals, from macro-structural issues and mechanics to accounting nuances and the niceties of conjunctions and semi-colons.
\n\n
A basic understanding of software coding would be awesome.
\n\n
A cover letter is required. A crisp cover letter, preferred.
\n\n
About GitHub Legal
\n\n
GitHub is revolutionizing the way that software is developed. It's been named TechCrunch's Best Boot-Strapped Startup (2009), TechCrunch's Best Overall Startup (2012), one of Entrepreneur Magazine's 100 Brilliant Companies (2013), one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies (2013), a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer (2014), and one of MIT's 50 Smartest Companies in the World (2014). We're a private, growing business based in San Francisco, but increasingly expanding throughout Europe and Asia.
\n\n
GitHub Legal operates on the cutting edge of legal practice. Like the rest of the software world, our team uses GitHub to work more collaboratively, transparently, and efficiently. We believe strongly in working together and from first principles, questioning tradition and basic industry assumptions, and in retaking and reforming our profession while delivering the highest quality of work product and counsel to our client. We value diversity of thought and experience, deep intellectual engagement with your subject matter, innovation, social awareness, and high emotional intelligence. Everyone at GitHub should view it as a career-defining opportunity.
\n\n
About GitHub
\n\n
Who we are
\n\n
GitHub is the best place to share code with friends, co-workers, classmates, and complete strangers. Over eight million people use GitHub to build amazing things together. With the collaborative features of GitHub.com, our desktop and mobile apps, and GitHub Enterprise, it has never been easier for individuals and teams to write better code, faster.
\n\n
We have a lot of exciting things to do, and we’re looking for the right people to grow with us!
\n\n
Why you should join
\n\n
Working at GitHub is, to put it simply, a special slice of the universe. We're committed to transparency, collaboration, experimentation, and always staying classy.
\n\n
Because of this unique perspective, we've established one of the most flexible and well designed physical workspaces around that encourages you to work as you work best. Right now, over 60% of our employees are based outside of our San Francisco (SOMA) headquarters and work according to how they get their best stuff done.
\n\n
Ensuring that GitHubbers are healthy, motivated, focused and creative is how GitHub stays awesome. Part of this is ensuring that our benefits* are out of this world.
\n\n
In a nutshell, we've built and are growing a place where we truly love working, and we think you will too.
\n\n
GitHub is made up of people with many different backgrounds and lifestyles, and we like it that way. Every hour of every day, we’re working to protect the UK. It's about keeping our society safe, secure and successful. From terrorists to hackers, fraudsters, and organised criminal gangs, the online threats we encounter are many, varied and increasingly sophisticated. So, we've always got to be one step ahead.
\n\n
Here at our newest site in Greater Manchester, we’re looking for highly talented, ambitious and experienced software specialists – people who are ready to solve the unsolvable, and develop unbreakable systems. Whether you’ve mastered C++ or Java, we’ll put your valuable skills to work, helping to safeguard the entire UK from cyber threats.
\n\n
Joining a small agile team, you’ll contribute to the fast-paced development of high quality code. Primarily, you’ll be working with either Java, C++, C or Python, as well as cloud and distributed programming technologies such as Hadoop and NoSQL. Your particular focus will be on developing specialist high integrity systems that are robust enough to have a lifetime measured in years, rather than months.
\n\n
At times, you’ll be under pressure to deliver conflicting priorities. But you’ll be great at context switching, getting up to speed quickly, and choosing the right tools for the job. Plus, you’ll be comfortable releasing code quickly rather than taking time to craft the perfect solution. In return, you’ll benefit from a unique environment where you’ll be exposed to technologies you simply wouldn’t find anywhere else.
\n\n
Ideally, you’ll have a degree in either computer science, software engineering or software development, or equivalent experience. Your C++ and/or Java skills will mean you can take on challenging software problems and you’ll be comfortable using a variety of languages. Crucially, you’ll combine an engineering mindset with the tenacity and perseverance to keep us ahead of any cyber threat.
\n\n
To apply you must be a British citizen. We want our workforce to reflect the diversity of our work and welcome applicants from all sections of the community.
\n\n
For more information or to apply, click here: http://ad.doubleclick.net/ddm/clk/292085570;119326058;i
\n\n
Closing date: 7th July 2015.
\n",
