Hm. In both runs, beampositition timestamping got disabled, apparently because the beampos query returns a constant zero. That defeats the purpose of testing beamposition queries ;-)

Can you play with the ScreenToHead prefs, trying different numbers? I think
Screen('Preference','ScreenToHead', 1, 1, n); for screen 1 (external display) and n = 0, 1, 2 or 3?

If we don't get the expected sawtooth pattern in BeampositionTest we have a new problem. For a setting of n = 0 you'd need to check it isn't just reporting the 0-1850 range of the Retina panel - which i'd expect. Best candidates would be 1, 2, 3.

Would be also worth a try if beampos queries work without ConserveVRAM 2^16, ie., if by any chance the NVidia drivers own mechanism isn't defective for accessing external displays.
