Subject: Organizational challenges

Hi, As CDO of this company, it is my job to also to organizate because that's what the big-O in my title is for. Right?

I don't know everything about anything or nothing, but I feel compelled to do my job and clearly organilizing - my expertise after all - is the solution. Since I have the class' attention now I guess I'll need to improvise so:

We need to make this work and there are problems/competition/bugs/prospects/potential/investors/deals/deadlines/goals/ACRs/MQLs/GA/dashboards/whatevs. But we're kind of missing some very important Organizational Foundations, so to clear some of the ambiguity and gain laser-focus on some of the real problems, lets play a game.

Games are, of course, the best way to pass the time and even learn something about us because games are fun and we're here for that ohyeah!/too/mostly/somewhat/rarely/maaaaybe, right?

So.

I remember a game we used to play we when we were young-er that's was called Truth or Dare. My variant, which is open for debate as usual although I believe you'd find it fun and organizational as is, is aimed for all us professionals working in/at/for/with ACME (Inc, Ltd & subsidiaries). Call it OToD if you will, and here are the rules:

  1. Two or more players (I'm calling dibs on first) are needed.
  2. To join the game yourself you'll need to: a. Access to your LinkedIn account b. Send me a contact invite, unless we're already connected somehow c. Then ask me "Truth or Dare" by asking for a Recommendation. d. Once you've done that (and do feel free to ping me after a while if I don't act on it - I hardly use social nowadays anymore, too hippish for me) never mention you challenged me to anyone but me (unless we both agree we can bring a certain someone/s into our little secrets/dares as professional adults like us).
  3. Once the OToD challenge has been made, the challengee must act in one, and only one, of the following ways: a. Truth means I'll need to write you a recommendation. It can be a "Sorry, I don't know you well enough for that" or "Dude, wtf, you know I don't do that kind of shit" or perhaps and maybe anything else that you mean. Remember that whomever asked that from you will read it and will later choose whether to share it on her/his wall as a bona fide thing so at the very least and always as a last resort try to be honest and let him/her choose. b. Dare: ok, fair enough, dare yourself to do something. Anything. Really. Anything. Scratch your nose. Fart. Draw. Make a change. Donate to charity. Or just whatever you choose that's totally cool. Ok, did that? Now prove it. Well, don't send a photo or nothing, just publish somewhere public that anyone can see and make sure that the challenger is aware of, the following message "I as challenged by OToD <replace-with-number-of-OToD-that-you've-been-challenged-with>

Let's try an example. Assume that I, the first playah, am OToDed by you. Remember you are my friend on LI and you just asked for a reco which is totally private. I don't even think I have anything to suspect about ABC.org hijacking you because we are, after all, just playing games. This is my first - number 1 - challenge so I want to make sure I do everything correctly.

Option 1 - Truth: I can brush you off with a polite blurb, or try to think about something positive/helpful/honest to say, or do a dare. I dare say that I'm the least daring person I know, so I'll wait with that and give Truth a chance.

Supposing that I found something truthful or not, polite or not, anything actually that I can answer the Truth challenge, that is fine. You can either accept it as truth or not, ask me what I meant perhaps, dig deeper/rest assured, reject it totally, whatever but at least you will have learned something true from the experience. If the recommendation I give you is golden, like if you feel you'd like to keep it and even maybe make it public on your wall, I'd be a little embarrassed (after all, I'm only the DoC) but that's fine.

Option 2 - Dare: Now suppose I go with dare. That means I can totally ignore the request for recommendation - again totally private to only me and you - since I took the other option. Done with that pesky linkedin request. Now what do I dare to do? I can scratch my nose. Sure. I do that like at least once a day or something. Ok, let me do. Here we go. Ah, that wasn't so hard.

To prove I scratched the thing, all I need to do is hang a sign/tweet/facebook/li/whatever the following: "I scratched my nose as challenged by OToD 1". Totally harmless really. I actually scratched my nose today, so that's one thing off my task list. Good riddance and back to work.

Cheers,
