C++ Pointer Tutorial

C++ Pointer Tutorial

Because pointers can be ugh

"Regular" variables (not pointers)

To understand a pointer, let's review "regular" variables first. If you're familiar with a programming language without pointers like JavaScript, this is what you think when you hear "variable".

When declaring a variable by identifier (or name), the variable is synonymous with its value.

PostgreSQL command line cheatsheet

PSQL

Magic words:

psql -U postgres

Some interesting flags (to see all, use -h or --help depending on your psql version):

  • -E: will describe the underlaying queries of the \ commands (cool for learning!)
  • -l: psql will list all databases and then exit (useful if the user you connect with doesn't has a default database, like at AWS RDS)

Designing a GraphQL API

Tutorial: Designing a GraphQL API

This tutorial was created by Shopify for internal purposes. We've created a public version of it since we think it's useful to anyone creating a GraphQL API.

It's based on lessons learned from creating and evolving production schemas at Shopify over almost 3 years. The tutorial has evolved and will continue to change in the future so nothing is set in stone.

The Simplest Terraform with Docker on macOS

If you'd like to experiment with Terraform on macOS locally, a great provider for doing so is the Docker provider. You can get set up in a few simple steps, like so:

1. Install Docker

Install Docker for Mac if you have not already.

Setting Up Clojure on OS X

Setting Up Clojure on OS X

I spent a lot of time trying to find a pretty optimal (for me) setup for Clojure… at the same time I was trying to dive in and learn it. This is never optimal; you shouldn't be fighting the environment while trying to learn something.

I feel like I went through a lot of pain searching Google, StackOverflow, blogs, and other sites for random tidbits of information and instructions.

This is a comprehensive "what I learned and what I ended up doing" that will hopefully be of use to others and act as a journal for myself if I ever have to do it again. I want to be very step-by-step and explain what's happening (and why) at each step.

I appreciate the effort you've put into documenting this, but there are a number of inaccuracies here that need to be addressed. We get
