Drupal Gold Coast April/May 2016

Drupal April/May 2016

Core Drupal 8.0.6 This is also the final scheduled patch release of the 8.0.x series. The next stable release planned for Drupal 8 will be the Drupal 8.1.0 minor release, which is scheduled for April 20, 2016. Sites should plan to update to 8.1.0 once it is released in order to continue receiving bug and security fixes. A release candidate will be available for testing soon. https://www.drupal.org/drupal-8.0.6-release-notes

Migration update for Drupal 8.1 http://mikeryan.name/blog/mikeryan/migration-update-for-drupal-8-1 Migrations are now plugins

Drupal 8.1.0-rc1 on April 6 and what it means for 8.0.x Drupal has adopted semantic versioning and a scheduled release cycle starting with Drupal 8.0.0. This means that it is possible within a major Drupal version to add new functionality in a backwards-compatible way, and there is no need to wait for Drupal 9 for improvements. The first such version, Drupal 8.1.0, is going to be released on April 20th 2016, including such improvements as the experimental Drupal Upgrade UI module (for migrating from Drupal 6 and 7) and the BigPipe module (to enhance perceived site performance). https://groups.drupal.org/node/510057

Drupal 8.1.0 https://www.drupal.org/blog/drupal-8-1-0 Drupal 8.1.0, the first minor release of Drupal 8, is now available. With Drupal 8, we made significant changes in our release process, adopting semantic versioning and scheduled feature releases. This allows us to make extensive improvements to Drupal 8 in a timely fashion while still providing backwards compatibility. Drupal 8.1.0 is the first such update.

What's new in Drupal 8.1.x? Drupal 8.1.0 comes with numerous improvements, including CKEditor WYSIWYG enhancements, added APIs, an improved help page, and two new experimental modules. (Experimental modules are provided with Drupal core for testing purposes, but are not yet fully supported.)

Articles d8cards (brilliant!) http://www.d8cards.com/ If you are new to Drupal 8, especially with a prior experience of D7 and looking for resources to get you started, you are at the right place.

"D8 Activity Cards" are a bunch of exercise cards designed to cover most of the topics that you would need to be familiar with to take up any Drupal 8 project as you transition from D7.

These cards work best for small study groups, although you could use them for individual practice as well.

How is Drupal 8 doing? http://buytaert.net/how-is-drupal-8-doing TLDR; Slow adoption, more so because people are waiting for modules to catch up, migration budgets from clients, plus it has been a large shift from the Drupal we all know.

AMPing up Drupal Today we are proud to announce a new Drupal 8 module that provides support for the Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) Project. The AMP Project is a new open source initiative which drastically improves the performance of the mobile web. In January 2016 Lullabot and Google started working together to create the Drupal AMP module. A beta version of AMP module for Drupal 8 is available immediately, and we are starting work on a Drupal 7 version of the module that will be available in mid-March. https://www.lullabot.com/articles/amping-up-drupal

Essential Drupal security modules We, at Drop Guard, are extremely concerned about all things Drupal security. Security is not something that can be taken for granted after ordering a security review, or passing through a "security checklist", or even after switching to Drop Guard for updates handling. We should always remember that security is a continuous process, and it consists of numerous bits and pieces requiring your attention all the time. http://www.drop-guard.net/blog/essential-drupal-security-modules

Pantheon Changing Development Domains pantheonsite.io is the new development domain eg foo.pantheonsite.io

Customers using the gotpantheon.com domain in their DNS provider's CNAME record can take advantage of uptime and reliability improvements by switching to pantheonsite.io. Customers using the pantheon.io domain already enjoy these improvements and may use pantheonsite.io if they wish to standardize on the new domain.

The following changes will take place on March 2, 2016: New sites will be provisioned on pantheonsite.io. All existing sites will have pantheonsite.io development domains added to them, including sites using their own custom development domains. All requests to legacy development domains will be permanently redirected to pantheonsite.io.
