History of Roller Coasters
- The first recorded roller coaster was in 18th century Russia.
- 1850’s Summit Hill Pennsylvania 8.7 mile long gravitational railroad used to deliver coal offered rides for 10 cents
- 1884 first “rollercoaster” at Coney Island
- Until 1959 all coasters were made of wood
- In 1959 Disneyland built the Matterhorn Bobsleds, the first coaster to use a Tubular steel track
- in 1975 Knotts Berry Farms creates the first rollercoaster to ever have an inverted element.
- Today there are 10 Roller coasters in the world over 300 ft with 3 of them over 400 feet
- The fastest recorded roller coaster goes almost 150mph
