Template: Module 4 Action Plan

Module 4 Goals

  • Get a job by October or in be in the process of getting one
  • Learn React Native and deploy 1 app
  • Build a network
  • Start a blog about best coding practices

Strategy To Achieve Goals:

  • Dedicate at least 4 hours per week to study React Native
  • Attend at least 1 meetup per week.
  • Do 2 blog posts a month
  • Outreach 3 people per week
  • Outreach 3 mentors per week
  • Research 5 companies per week
  • Prepare for interviews
  • Refactor READMEs in Github

Coding (both including your module 4 curriculum and anything outside of it):

  • Focus on learning more about Node.js and backend best practices
  • Deploy at least 1 app to Heroku
  • Start working on open source projects
  • Do 1 coding problem daily to prepare for technical challenge
  • Dedicate at least 4 hours per week to study React Native

Opportunities Research:

  • Do research of jobs and people in linkedIn
  • Do research on companies and know what they do
  • Follow coding blogs to learn new buzz words and best practices

Cold Outreach/Network:

  • Reach out to alumni to start networking
  • Go to meetups to meet new people
  • Research points of contact of different companies
  • Reach out to people from twitter, medium, etc

Personal Branding:

  • I will start a blog with the main focus on React because thats the technology I am more interested in working with
  • Start participating in forums, chats, etc.
  • Having presentable projects in github/Heroku

Timeline:

  • Most of the work will be after class, and weekends.
  • Coding exercises will be in the morning before going to class
  • Interview prep will be each day after class (2 questions per day)

Module Tasks:

  • Daily coding challenges
  • Daily interview questions
  • Schedule mock interviews
  • At least 3 cold outreach per week
  • At least 3 warm outreach per week
  • Write a blog post every 2 weeks
  • Scheduled mock interview with Ian
  • Attend meetups
  • Start participating in forums

  • Daily coding challenges
  • Daily interview questions
  • At least 3 cold outreach per week
  • At least 3 warm outreach per week
  • Write a blog post every 2 weeks

What I Will Work on with Meg

  • Pros and cons of different types of jobs (contract, full time)
  • Negotiation tactics and know what to expect
  • Best practices for networking
  • Best practices for cold outreach
