JP Feedback II Reflection
Date of feedback conversation:
October 1st, 2017
How did you prepare for the conversation?
I made an outline of our project and workflow so I could see what I wanted to express appreciation for as well as the coaching feedback I could offer. I also took a step back to put myself in his shoes since his kids were sick during the project and he was way more stressed than I was. I was upset about how hard it was to communicate with him because of his kid being sick but I made sure that I would be understanding of that during the conversation.
How did the conversation go for you? What was easy about the conversation? What was more difficult?
The conversation went well. We agreed on everything as far as how the project went and what I wish we could've done better on. It was difficult for me to bring up the lack of communication because I already knew the reason behind it but I felt as if it was something that still needed to be addressed. The easy part of the conversation was initiating it and explaining our feelings. He's very laid back and self aware so neither of us were surprised with what each other had to say.
What principles of feedback did you use in the conversation?
I expressed appreciation and offered coaching. I offered that he may benefit more from pairing rather than divide and conquer and that while working on a project he needs to communicate more. I took into account my blind spots and how he would receive the feedback I gave him.
