This is a super-simple cinnamon roll recipe by Amy Hafner that even programmers can follow.
- 1 package/box of yellow cake mix
- 2 packages of yeast
- 5 cups of flour
- 2 1/2 cups of hot water
- 1 1/2 sticks of melted butter (3/4 cup)
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1/4 cup of cinnamon (to taste)
- Mix dry ingredients.
- Add water - mix well.
- Knead for a few minutes until dough comes together, but don't over-knead. Dough should still be sticky.
- Cover loosely and let rise for 2 hours.
- Punch down, knead a few times, and roll to 1/2" thickness.
- Spread with ~ 2/3 of the butter.
- Mix the cinnamon and sugar, and sprinkle most (but not all) on the dough. Be sure to go edge-to-edge.
- Jelly-roll (roll up) the dough into a tight roll.
- Cut into 1" slices.
- Seal edge when rolled so it doesn't unroll itself when baking.
- Cover the bottom of a 9 x 13" glass pan with the rest of the butter, cinnamon, and sugar.
- Place slices in a pan and let rise for 20-30 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F (176 C) for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly browned.
