The best cinnamon roll recipe ever, by Amy Hafner.

Cinnamon Rolls

This is a super-simple cinnamon roll recipe by Amy Hafner that even programmers can follow.

Ingredients

  • 1 package/box of yellow cake mix
  • 2 packages of yeast
  • 5 cups of flour
  • 2 1/2 cups of hot water
  • 1 1/2 sticks of melted butter (3/4 cup)
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 cup of cinnamon (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients.
  2. Add water - mix well.
  3. Knead for a few minutes until dough comes together, but don't over-knead. Dough should still be sticky.
  4. Cover loosely and let rise for 2 hours.
  5. Punch down, knead a few times, and roll to 1/2" thickness.
  6. Spread with ~ 2/3 of the butter.
  7. Mix the cinnamon and sugar, and sprinkle most (but not all) on the dough. Be sure to go edge-to-edge.
  8. Jelly-roll (roll up) the dough into a tight roll.
  9. Cut into 1" slices.
  10. Seal edge when rolled so it doesn't unroll itself when baking.
  11. Cover the bottom of a 9 x 13" glass pan with the rest of the butter, cinnamon, and sugar.
  12. Place slices in a pan and let rise for 20-30 minutes.
  13. Bake at 350°F (176 C) for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly browned.
