The Science Behind Gratitude

####Think of three things you are grateful for

  • Been sad recently? Worry and guilt activate reward center
  • Why? In the short term, worrying makes your brain feel a little better — at least you’re doing something about your problems.

####Gratitude

  • Wellbutrin boosts the neurotransmitter dopamine - so does gratitude.
  • Prozac boosts the neurotransmitter dopamine - so does gratitude.
  • Forces you to think about positive things which releases seratonin - Even if it is forced!
  • Can't think of anything? It’s the searching that counts.

#####Other pros?

  • Creates a positive loop in personal relationships -> say it loud and proud!
  • Promotes a mindfulness state of mind.

  • Label your emotions - Sad? Be sad.
    • Explain Gross's study
  • Make that decision
    • Ever decide on something and feel at rest? Anxiety is lowered by decision making
    • Explain rat cocaine experiment
