Finalize Cohort 2 Schedule

  • Allocate days for each energizer
  • Allocate days for student led energizers
  • Ensure that there are enough breaks built in
  • For w2d1, start having students try to run he energizers
  • Allocate start and end times for
    • standups at 9am for 10 minutes
    • camp itself
    • breakfast
    • lunch
    • breaks (including a longer break)
    • review time after class (30 mins)
      • Potential Format:
        • Review:
          • What could be improved on
          • What went well
          • What may we do for tomorrow

Create cohort 2 metrics

  • Attendance Sheet
  • Pre Program Survey
    • Add the questions to get a sense of where someone is before they enter
      • "List the programming languages have you used before?"
      • "If you have worked with code before, briefly describe one of the most difficult projects that you've worked on and how it was technically implmeented"
    • Mindset / Grit
  • Middle Questionaire
  • Post Program Survey
    • Mindset / Grit
    • Change the first question to "What would you say to a student who is condering attending hack camp but is on the fence?"
  • Read Sooz's email on how we may be able to quantify mindset

Research Energizers

research for more energizers through transformative institute and improv website

Video Documentation

  • Find an effective way to record energizers by finding the best place in the room to setup the camera such that the field of view is wide enough. Perhaps the only solution is to have someone physically videotaping it.

  • Test how long you can record for at a time (just record a blank video and come back to see if it ever dies). We want to test the SD card as well as the power capabilities of the camera.

  • Make sure you are prepared to record all the energizers

  • Make sure you are prepared to record all the video lectures.

@maxwofford

Bring in card & board games from home

In the hack-camp, a folder where we can put our personal notes. Perhaps something that likes like this could work.

Outline flow of new technical curriculum such that every day has

  • an objective
  • a vehicle
  • concepts covered
  • what is shipped at the end of each day
    • presentation?
    • github website?

Strategy: focus on breadth, not depth!

w1d1

  • shout
  • mention coldcalling
  • github

w2d1

  • A letter to yourself

Create an outline for a technical cheatsheet for each concept

  • HTML
  • Git
  • CSS
  • JS
  • Phaser
  • DOM manipulation

Strategy: focus on breadth, not depth! It's just an outline!

Create a list of what kind of sandboxed examples could be helpful for this lesson.

Strategy: focus on breadth, not depth! It's just an outline!

Create an MVP for visual analogs for the concepts for each day.

Strategy: focus on breadth, not depth! It's just an outline!

Create MVP kinesthetic examples (ex. Max is the computer and what would you tell max, acting out how functions work)

Strategy: focus on breadth, not depth! It's just an outline!

Create a presentation cheatsheet

Create a github cheatsheet

  • Check with Zach fiirst

Come up with a list of other organizations / website curricula to look through.

Review other peoples curriculum

  • Girls Who Code
  • Mission Bit

Writeup description of energizers that adeng wasn't around for.

Link to energizers

Figure out which other people it would be beneficial for you to talk to?

  • Create a list of "legit" people and organizations?
  • Create a list of club leaders.

Schedule Calls With

  • Mission Bit Guy

Prepare Questions for Calls

Ashley

Questions:

  • What kinds of feedback is the most helpful?

Robert

Questions:

  • What have been the most effective survey questions that you guys have used?

MB

Curricular timeline

Read Papert

How do you qualitatively look at github

Have something that tracks understanding of certain concepts for each student

Have a cheatsheet step by step thing for the meta learning

  • The steps to solving any problem
    • Googling
    • etc.
