Intro

  • OFW
    • Official firmware (unmodified)
  • CFW
    • Custom firmware (SX OS)

To get from CFW to OFW, all you need to do is reboot. And to get back into CFW you must follow the steps below.

Launching CFW & the SXOS menu

NOTE: Whenever the device is rebooted, or turned off, you HAVE to do this to get back into CFW.

  1. Attach the dongle, then turn off the switch (if it's not already off)
  2. Take RIGHT joycon off, and slide the plastic jig down the rail (the metal pokey bits should be at the BOTTOM)
  3. Ensure the Dongle's LED is RED, if it's not, hold down the button until it changes color, repeat until its red
  4. HOLD Volume Down
  5. Press the power button
  6. You should now see the SX OS loader
    • If not, hold the power button for at least 10 seconds, then repeat step 3-4
  7. Hit "Launch CFW" (or something like that)
  8. Hopefully the switch has now booted and you see the home screen
  9. Go to the Album app
  10. It should now launch SXOS menu.
    • If it doesn't then you are not in CFW and must repeat step 1-5

Activating the SXOS license

I'm not exactly sure how to do this because I didn't have to, and in my quick search I couldn't find the solution. But you can follow their manual here . Page 8-9

Playing games

There are two types of formats for the Nintendo switch ROMs.

  1. XCI
    • A direct dump of the Game cartridge
    • Only one XCI can be mounted at once (and you cannot use the Switch's gamecard slot)
    • To play a different game you must go back into the SXOS menu (click the album app), then select the next game you want to mount
  2. NSP
    • These come straight from the eShop
    • They are installed not mounted.
    • Because they are installed, you need to have double the size of the game of free space on your SD card.
    • You can delete the NSP after it's installed
    • EX: 8GB NSP game, requires 16GB of free space to install
      • After it is installed you can delete the NSP to regain that 8gb

To add a game you just place it in the /switch/games folder on your SD card. XCI files will show up in the first screen in the SXOS menu, and you can just select it to mount it.

To install the NSP's I believe you hit the Left or Right shoulder button (I can't remember, but it should say)

Getting Games

There has been some evil people releasing NSP files that can brick your system. But usually only for games that have been leaked before release. (Smash, and pokemon were affected so far)

So be careful when downloading your games, or just ask me and I can find a good link for you.

Misc

  • As of right now SXOS does not support the latest 6.2 switch version. But it will probably be fixed soon, but for now DO NOT UPATE.
  • Being Banned
    • Chances are no matter how hard you try, you may end up being banned anyways, but below are some precautions
    • ALWAYS turn off Wifi when playing ANY game, because if for whatever reason they connect to the internet, you will be auto banned.
      • Doom fucked me over...
    • If you have a LEGIT copy of the game, only play it when on the OFW
    • ONLY update games when on OFW
    • Basically, if you're connecting to the internet, be on OFW.
  • Homebrew
    • There are some homebrew apps installed by default
    • You can access it by hitting the button in the SXOS Menu (album app) that says "homebrew"
