If you are a Drupal Developer and you feel somehow in a point where you don't know if it is a good idea to start working on Drupal 8, then this post may be helpful enough to finally push you into it.
Views are in core now, something surely to take into account as in 2011, Drupal 7 started to being adopted once Views for D7 was released 6 months later! Yes, 6 months of Drupal 7 and almost no one using it. :(
Almost there! Both modules have been actively pushed forwarded by the Acquia Module Acceleration Program and both are in an Alpha stage. Things seem good enough for start using them in Production sites soon.
Here you can find a complete list of all modules that make use of Token and their actual state for Drupal 8.
Well, there is a new one for Drupal 8 and it is Admin Toolbar it is as good as its Drupal 7.x predecessor is, so enough for those of us who love going straight to the inner sections as fast as possible.
Views Slideshow is here! Although in the meantime the only similar alternative was Jssor Slider we can already use this popular module to build our content slideshow with the new Views Slideshow 8.4.x
Features is one of the most popular ways of moving things around among Drupal dev environments. Even among different sites, which initially it was conceived for: "bundle reusable functionality". Well, Drupal 8 has a very advanced "Features" for Drupal 8.x port, but with the introduction of Configuration Management (CMI), things have been re-thought again.
So, while you can still bundle and export different sections of your Drupal 8 website configuration, CMI is being widely used among Drupal 8 developers and seems to be a very solid alternative to things we were only able to do with Features in Drupal 7.
A couple of resources you will surely find pretty useful:
The popular Display Suite is already ported for Drupal 8. Amazing!!!
Bootstrap is so far the most popular Drupal 8 theme being used across the Drupal community, right after the ones that come with Core. It is in a very advanced stage of the development cycle and I would say "use with caution" but it is really nice to go. One indicator of this, is that almost 1 every 4 themes available for Drupal 8 at Drupal.org, are based on Bootstrap theme.
So far, there are almost 100 Drupal 8 Themes in Drupal.org, most of them in "porting process" compared to the 690 Drupal 7 ones, but there is a huge trending of receiving a lot more every month. Some of the most populars are:
- Paragraphs is becoming a popular way to create advanced content layouts by content editors.
- Image Effects is here to replace the D7 Image Cache Actions.
- Rules is in a very advanced stage.
- Inline Entity Form can already be used for Inline Entity creation.
- Captcha & * reCaptcha are stable enough.
- Geolocation Field is ready to map Entities. Views integration stills limited but with a nice future ahead.
- Search API has been moved! Wohoo!
- Simplenews is ready for those who prefeer it over other alternatives such as MailChimp, which is also ready for D8.
- CTools
- Views Infinite Scroll
- IMCE
- Simple XML Sitemap
- ColorBox
- Field Group
- Metatag
- Contact Storage & Contact Block, combined with the Core Contact module provides a nice alternative to Webform so far. Webform is not usable yet, it is being ported.
- Entity Browser
- Media Entity
- Migrate Plus
- Address
- Simple XML Sitemap
