Mario Forever: Winter Franchise Changelog

Version 1.1

Additions:

  • Remake of Credits section
    • New background, more soundtrack information, more people added to shoutouts
  • 3 more extra levels
  • Level selector
    • Going back to previous levels does NOT reset your game progress
  • Boomerang flower as a secret powerup in many levels
  • Boomerang powerup being able to kill more enemies
  • Boomerang powerup being able to destroy fireballs while crouching
  • Better effects in a few occasions
  • Minor additions to Land 3 Boss
  • Skippable cutscenes
  • Auto-recovery of corrupted saves
  • Explanatory signs added to 1-1, 2-4 levels
  • A few bonus rooms added in later levels, containing a Boomerang flower
  • Better description for the game executable

Changes:

  • Major balance changes for Hurricane Mountains (4-1)
    • This includes the addition of an infinite Life Mushroom near the checkpoint
  • Minor balance changes for 1-1, 1-2, 1-5, 2-3, 3-2, 4-2, 4-4 levels
    • The changes are minimal and only include a Fire Piranha replaced by a normal Piranha, a flower-moving Rotodisc replaced by a normal Rotodisc, some platform paths being moved a little closer to the ground, etc.
  • Balance changes for the Final boss:
    • Added invincibility after taking a hit
    • Some attacks now show the safe zone
    • Some attacks are now less cheesable
    • Items can no longer be farmed, having a cap of 2 on screen for each item type
    • The hitbox is now bigger and matches its sprites, making it easier to damage the boss
    • Platforms in the final phase are now semi-solid
      • They will no longer take away objects on them when they disappear
  • Balance change for Accelerating Bullet Launcher:
    • Initial delay has been increased
    • Minimal firing rate has been decreased
  • Some minor changes in Rhythmic Snowland (2-2) to help the player recover from falling
  • Rhythmic Snowland scrolling has been improved

Fixes:

  • Saved level label not showing above the save pipe
  • Save corruption issues:
    • Save file corrupting if a level has been completed, but was exited earlier than World Complete has been reached
    • Save pipe only warping to Credits
    • Entering saves that have been corrupted in 1.0 will get them repaired in this version
  • Player sometimes getting stuck after picking up a powerup
  • Player with Super Mushroom getting stuck in locations with low ceiling
  • Player not being able to destroy bricks above them while crouching
  • Bowser consuming fireballs while invincible
  • Slow player acceleration on ceiling (most noticeable on Hurricane Mountains)
  • Some sound effects (e.g. checkpoint activation) were too loud compared to other sounds (e.g. brick breaking)
    • Due to this fix, the music volume slider is now 7 out of 10 bars by default, to compensate quieter sound effects
  • Warping sometimes leaving a part of Mario's body behind
  • Some projectiles not being removed on level end correctly
  • Boomerangs making an obnoxious sound when hitting invincible enemies
  • Platform & P-Switch not triggering on prelanding jumps
  • P-Switch audio issue if it was active while finishing the level
  • Party World background loop issues
  • Selecting Credits in Pause menu had an unexpected, broken behavior
  • Selecting Credits in Pause menu caused the player to lose level progress
  • Player shooting underwater having an incorrect animation
  • Death sound effect in SMB2 extra level being incorrect
  • Forced Windowed mode if no settings file was present and options have been changed
  • Broken death circle transition
  • Ability to break the pause menu while a transition is in progress
  • Too big Icicle hitbox
  • Credits sometimes closing earlier than expected
  • 4-4 soundtrack being too loud
  • The 2-1 one-time P-Switch wasn't disappearing correctly
  • Some end level gates had an incorrect position of floor detection area
  • Trying to kill some enemies with Boomerangs caused the game to crash
  • Stomping Accelerated Bullets sometimes caused them to fly in the wrong direction
  • Lakitu death animation having an incorrect behavior
  • Lakitu not being able to throw Spiny Eggs in some cases
  • Spinies not playing their appearing animation correctly
  • Spiny Egg death animation appearing incorrectly in minimal quality setting
  • Shader compilation in Compatibility Mode (OpenGL, Direct3D 11 renderers) taking longer than it should
    • Note that Compatibility Mode will remain being unsupported, and this fix was only caused by updating the software
  • A very rare occasion in one of the Final Boss attacks caused the game to freeze to death
  • Powerups in the Final Boss cluttered the screen
  • Starting the next phase of Final Boss and immediately damaging it would immediately start the next phase/kill the boss
  • Bullet Bills would never be removed outside of the screen, causing the game performance to degrade
  • The game icon would sometimes not display correctly in Windows Explorer
