Storm unit testing - BaseBasicBolt vs BaseRichBolt

I'm trying to get unit tests going for Storm. I tried to get an example working for Storm 1.0.3 (actually 0.9.3. but I wanted to ensure that this behaviour is the same on the latest version).

The attached code below works fine and ends with a success:

Tests run: 1, Failures: 0, Errors: 0, Skipped: 0, Time elapsed: 3.887 sec

However, when I change BaseBasicParrotBolt on line 46 to BaseRichParrotBolt, the assertions never run and it ends with the following exception:

13610 [main] ERROR o.a.s.testing4j - Error in cluster java.lang.AssertionError: Test timed out (10000ms) (not (every? exhausted? (spout-objects spouts)))

I m confused that how does the ILocalCluster get initialized?
