Setup guide for Oculus Touch as Hip Tracker

Oculus Touch as Hip

Hi! As of Sep. 10 2019, you may notice some things are different or broken!! Please be patient as things are adjusted to work with the new SteamVR version (1.7.15)

  • In the meantime, check out this section of the standard Hybrid setup FAQ for a temporary workaround! Thanks<3

NOTE: The software provided from this guide is in an alpha state. Rarely, you may run into bugs or other issues. As this software is not officially supported, please keep any questions or bug reports to the Rift x Vive discord.

Make sure you've followed the tracker setup guide here first if using feet trackers

  1. In the devices tab of the Oculus Client, pair your spare oculus controller as a VR Object: Configure rift

  2. Download the LIV Motion Capture app on steam, run it and install "Liv Mixed Reality Video Capture Driver"

  3. Close LIV and download the file here. Save it somewhere convenient, as you will need to run it each time you start steamVR

  4. Open steamVR and secure the tracker to your waist. (Using a standard leather belt strapped relatively tight and inserting the handle of the touch controller into it works well for securing it)

  5. Once steamVR has loaded and initialized, launch the file downloaded in step 3. Once connected you should be able to see the tracker in steamVR

  6. Once you see the tracker in steamVR, launch vrchat and enjoy!

-- If your paired hip tracker acts as a controller in steamVR or VRChat, follow the guide here. With SteamVR running, you can do the same thing from here http://127.0.0.1:8998/dashboard/controllerbinding.html

-- Thanks to CasuallyNoted for originally posting the driver and initial guide in the Fullbody Tracking channel of the VRChat discord.

it looks like the newer version of liv causes issues with this (using v2.2.0), my hip now spazzes between two points and i cant seem to get the pre 2.0 liv version anymore

I was so confused why my tracking was borked but only for my hip tracker, now I see you two saying it broke. Anyone figure out a fix yet?

I'll point out that this worked on the same system last year, but I went to use it today and received the same problem Starfish described. My hand controllers were fine, but my Liv VR Object was teleporting all over the place.

I got it working, you just need to opt into the "Previous" beta for Liv. I'll drop some feedback on their Steam forums, the dev(s) seem pretty active on there.
