  1. What role does empathy play in your life, and how has it helped you?
  • The most powerful lesson I have learned is when people have shown me empathy in my times of need and it has inspired me to be there for other people are in their time of need. It is a life time skill I can always be growing and working on.
  1. How does empathy help you build better software?
  • My ability to understand the users needs and anticipate what would make their experience more intuitive. Being on a team makes empathy of utmost importance. Being able to see what is going on with your team members and help out without being asked will create a stronger work community.
  1. Why is empathy important for working on a team?
  • I think it is vital for team members to be empathetic because a team is ideally a safe space where people can mess up. Being able to mess up and have people around you be encouraging and connect with you through the process, means that there will be more experimentation and it will bring out peoples ability to push through a tricky thing.
  1. Describe a situation in which your ability to empathize with a colleague or teammate was helpful.
  • Being able to empathize with my colleagues has been useful in the purest sense that we were able to build a stronger team. I have been able to make connections with people, and they were able to make connections with me, and we gave more to the team because of it.
  1. When do you find it most difficult to be empathetic in professional settings? How can you improve your skills when faced with these scenarios?
  • I find it difficult to be empathetic when someone plays the victim card. I think being able to see that someone feels helpless and giving support in those times will be very important. I am not above this situation, and I know when people give me an ounce of support, I can fix the situation. Sometimes you just need to know you aren't alone.
