Draft for announcement via @channel in #general

Hi everyone! Apologies for popping into your notifications/inbox so soon again but we have some important news to share with you! We're merging with the ZA Tech Slack team!

A lot of you knew about the much larger ZA Tech Slack team, and ~200 of you (25%) are in both teams already. The admins there have managed to register a non-profit and get access to a better Slack experience than we have, including full history!

As the stewards of this community we've decided that a merger makes more sense than running competing communities, and as such we're officially anouncing that this team is deprecated and will be shut down by the end of the year in favour of a larger and more united local community. All we've done is not lost, they share a lot of our same values and we've been working hard the last few days to smooth out some differences in the way the communities are run.

If this catches you by surprise, we're sorry! We've already been through a few days of migrating the existing channels over and having discussions in #zatech-merge.

We know not everyone will be happy with this and that this Slack has become a home for many of you. It is our firm belief that everyone will settle in quickly in their new home and the great discussions will continue on that side. We're proud of what we've achieved here, and proud of everyone for participating. This is not the end of the story, just the end of a chapter! All of us will continue writing the story of the ZA developer community over there.

Now for some nuts and bolts: please sign up at http://zatech.co.za to get an invite, review their Code of Conduct at https://github.com/zatech/code-of-conduct (forked from ours) and join us in #developers/#general there as well as all your favourite channels. By default you'll get dropped into #announcements, #codeofconduct, #introductions & #random. The #announcements channel is readonly. This is strange to us, but don't despair! If you find it annoying simply mute the channel (it is a failing of Slack that you can't leave it).

Lastly, there is an #asktheadmins channel where you can raise any issues you might have. Myself, @kmckelvin & @gabrielfortuna aren't admins there, but we have several direct lines open and we will continue to support everyone on that side just like we did on this side.

Thanks again for being part of this enourmously successful endevour and see you on the other side!
