My name is Kim McCaskill and back in 2016, I identified as a music educator. During my internship in my last semester, a lot changed for me as I became a little more weary of what was being asked of teachers at that point in Florida regarding work/.ife balance. I decided to make a career change to join the military and play in the Marine Band as my back up plan. I put in countless hours of work practicing for my audition and eventually got in! During the time that it took to get all the paperwork set up to join the military, I took up a part time job at a little chicken restaurant known as Chick-fil-A. One day, the owner of the restaurant came up to me and asked me why I was working there. I told him about my degree and how I came to be working hourly as a cashier and he asked me to stay and join his leadership team. At that time, I really enjoyed the challenge of working at a fast paced environment and the position he offered to me was a training and hiring role which had a lot of similar transfers between teaching. This led me to be a part of the leadership team for the next 3 years of my life.

Fast forward to the tail end of my CFA career, I was not nearly as happy with the amount of challenge and learning that the job brought me as I was at the beginning of my career and I knew that I needed to make a move. I applied for some hospitality jobs in downtown Denver and began a short 1 year stint as a manager with Hyatt. After that first year, I felt similar feelings as to when I was at CFA. I had messed with a little bit of coding online and thought it was a fun hobby so I decided to go to a Try Coding event and had so much fun, I applied that night for Turing.

Hi Kim! This is a great starting draft! I appreciate how you emphasize your tenacity in taking on different kinds of jobs and learning various skills to bring with you to this career. In this version, your move into programming comes off a little abruptly. What was it about programming that made it the career for you? What do you love about it still -- and why will you continue in this career? Outlining some of the goals you have for yourself here will also help in fleshing this out more. Overall, nice job!
