Turing Career Development - Mod 0 Capstone

What is your greatest strength and how do you know?

Based on the test, it notes that my strongest category is being Professional. This includes doing what needs to get done, and being reasonably proactive about it. The category also includes being a supportive team player that can and will work with others to get those tasks done. I believe that this stems from such a huge exposure to being in music ensembles growing up. Even if my part in the ensemble was solid, we weren't good until everyone could execute what needed to be played together.

How do you work best?

As an objective-analytical thinker, I work well with specific goals and I pursue them dilligently. I enjoy thinking about possible outcomes and other ways to have problems solved. I enjoy working with others and when on a team, love to guide and support others. I am fairly flexible to obstacles that may come in the way to get projects completed and understand that just doing your best is all you can do.

What is your greatest area of improvement?

Although empathetic of people and their emotions, my greatest area of improvement is probably with the interactions of those people. I am not confident in projecting big ideas to others. My calm demeanor can seem too laid-back at times. A combination of these traits with my lack of outward enthusiasm culminates to a persona that has some holes in major social skills.

How do you hope to maximize your strengths for your new career in software development?

I am hoping to maximize my strengths as an effective and supportive member of a team. I hope to come together with others, not only to work together and solve big goals, but also help create success in the micro goals. A lot of my previous experience before coming to Turing involved problem solving on a reactive, as well as a proactive level. A combination of those things will hopefully help me in my path to a successful career.

How might knowing about your strengths and working preferences benefit you as a software developer?

Introspection is such an important benefit to long term success. You learn how to take advantage of your strengths as well as what skills to work on. With such understanding of what you are good at and how you succeed, you learn what steps to take next. You can understand where the holes are in your development as an individual and can also communicate that with others.
