  • The Currents of Space — Isaac Asimov
    Felt like the most Asimovian stereotype to date. Whodunnit to the max. But, a nice short enjoyable read that fits in with the rest of the Asimov universe.

  • Use of Weapons (Culture Book) — Iain Banks
    Read this one sober. It took me a while to get used to the way this book is written, but I definitely enjoyed it. A lot more about the Culture operatives (Contact / Special Circumstances) than the rest of the Culture universe.

  • Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking — Susan Cain
    My favorite book of 2014. Helped me feel a lot more comfortable in my skin, make better decisions, and confident that there's nothing wrong with me just because I don't aspire to extrovert ideals.

  • The Man Who Ended The World — Jason Gurley
    A great little sci-fi read from one of my old co-workers. Really enjoyed it, but then again who doesn't love a great post-apocalyptic novel with a crazy rich dude.

  • Wool (Silo Series) — Hugh Howey
    I'd heard this series pop up enough I had to check it out. I enjoyed reading it, but the foreshadowing was heavy and the storylines a little typical. Still: Post-apocalyptic conspiracies!

  • The Idea Factory: Bell Labs and the Great Ages of American Innovation — Jon Gertner
    Read this to learn more about successful engineering cultures, but this turned out to be far more a history of Bell Labs and the famous inventors (Young Turks). I enjoyed it a ton and learned a whole lot about Bell Labs legacy.

  • Foundation's Edge — Isaac Asimov
    Foundation! Earth! Gaia! I really enjoyed this, but I love Foundation everything. This book Probably not enjoyable if you haven't read the other Foundation books. It ties together a ton of Asimov's universe together.

  • The Player of Games (Culture Book) — Iain Banks
    The most famous Culture book. I fell in love with the Culture universe in 2013 and definitely enjoyed this one. A lot less sci-fi-aliens-cool-stuff and a bit more sexism/government/plotting than Consider Phelbas.
