| Eye One | greyhound.resist.fibs | Everybody wants to know how many people will show up in the Black Rock Desert for Renegade Man 2021. Many answers will be projected, spouted, reasoned, or stated before and after the fact. Many answers will simply be inaccurate, some highly so. Some might be closer to the truth than others. The truth is that most people tend to either overestimate or underestimate. The question is if it is possible to determine such an answer without ticket sales, a census, or just using pure speculation? Camp EYE ONE has the ambitious aim to find out. By using aerial drone technology, photogrammetry, orthomosaic mapping, counting objects, and some relatively simple applied math it will be possible to find a clear estimation of the actual population. Although it will not be an absolute population count, which cannot be done without ticket sales, the process will be able to narrow down the estimate to a fairly specific upper and lower range. Flights will occur every day starting on Monday, August 30th until Sunday, September 5th. Flight times for the mapping process are estimated to take up to three hours per day for just the Plan B area alone, which I have used software to determine is approximately 2,345 acres, a massive area and a huge undertaking. Since the Black Rock Desert is essentially a blank slate, any foreign objects on its surface can be counted. In this case rather than counting people directly, it will be vehicles. After counting all visible vehicles during a given time period and in a determined area a statistical number, the average number of Persons-Per-Vehicle (PPV), will be multiplied by the vehicle count to determine the upper and lower population range. Persons-Per-Vehicle is an assumed number, but commonly used values as applied in other similar scenarios will be implemented. Most PPV values fall between 2.5 - 3.5. It is intended that a report, photos, and other data of some sort will be generated after the gathering of ""Burn Week"" has finished. As of now, EYE ONE is a solo camp located a little way off in the outskirts of Plan B around the 1:30 position. This will be my 20th year on the playa.
