Pros

  • clear and hard for a person entering metadata to miss?

Cons

  • Displays to public
    • Possible "pro" from this: incentive to remediate records using these terms, in order to "fix" display
  • "Why is this in the list if I'm not supposed to use it?" (To support migration of legacy data that may use deprecated terms)

Pros

  • deprecated status and metadata creator instruction does not display to public

Cons

  • very easy to miss these instructions, especially as one becomes familiar with using the form
