This workshop will be a comprehensive introduction to Sass, a.k.a. everyone's favorite CSS pre-processor! In addition to the concepts behind a pre-processor, we will cover the following:

  • Installing and compiling Sass via the command line
  • Key Sass features like variables, nesting, mixins, and partials
  • Incorporating Sass into existings projects
  • Setting up Sublime Text for coding with the SCSS syntax
  • Best practices for ensuring your code quality and project structure

Following a lecture outlining the above, we will have workshop time where attendees will install Sass and begin incorporating it into their own projects, request demos, and play around with its features based on provided starter code.

This workshop will be taught by Lara Schenck, a freelance web designer/developer and instructor visiting from New York City.

Prerequisites

You should be experienced with HTML, CSS, and have a general understanding of programming concepts like variables and functions. Previous experience in the command line with commands like cd and ls is recommended.

Required Installs

Be sure to have your text editor of choice (Sublime Text 3 will be used for demos) ready to go.
