Full text of the GotQuestions special question
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think the GotQuestions official answer of "What does the Bible say about extreme fighting?" has false conclusion.
Please read my arguments and then tell me your opinion about them.
So, I see: "the Bible does not give any hard-and-fast reason why a Christian cannot enjoy or participate in martial arts or the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA). "
I think, the principles in the Bible tells us that it is a sin to hurt each other physically for the sake of show/entertainment and/or money. I’m not talking about the combat sports which do not contain high risk of permanent physical damage, like brain damage. I am talking about the today’s popular MMA fights, and boxing fight, and other kinds of fights, because I believe that today’s MMA fights and boxing fights contain very high risk of permanent brain damage, as well as high risks of other permanent physical damage.
Here are my arguments:
Well, yeah, Jesus did not command total pacifism, physical fitness and self defense is very good, I agree. Yeah, what happens in the ring, is a controlled environment, with strict rules, and both persons know the risks, and the fight is consensual from both persons, but human body is not a playtoy in the eye of God. I mean, in real life, you should be violent (but not overviolent) when it is necessary to defend yourself or other person, sure, but for show? For entertainment of audience? Just imagine what happens in the mind of the people who watch such shows, the people who feel pleasure by two men hitting each other on the face with high risk of permanent brain damage. I think both: the audience people and the participant people are sinful in this. Do you really think Jesus would see it as a normal entertainment?
Yeah, other sports like football, soccer, basketball, and many more, also contain some risk of permanent physical damage, even if we say that those sports contain higher risk of permanent physical damage than MMA, in those sports, the goal is to win with ball or something else, making any physical damage to another player is prohibited and penalized. In MMA, the strict rules exists to prevent serious physical damage, but we see with our own eyes that two men hit each other in their head, which looks like a super high risk of permanent brain damage. Do you really think that Jesus would see those MMA "safety" rules as safe enough to treat God’s creation human body with Godly honor?
Yeah, In the Bible, God “wrestles” with Jacob. This was clearly combative; the result was a substantial injury to Jacob. Yeah, David praised God for helping him become a better warrior, but I think those things never happened for show, for entertainment. The problem is entertainment, gladiator-like, extra dangerous show, playing with human body which is probably the most serious creation of God.
I think we should train and extreme-fight when it is necessary in real life, but extreme-fight to give the audience some pleasure? I think that’s a big no no from God.
And probably also American football or rugby are sinful, because they also contain high risk of permanent physical damage. Well, yeah, it is consensual from all participants, but again, I don’t think God would like seeing us playing with our bodies willfully with so much risk of permanent damage.
