A simple format for a scoping workshop

  1. Summarize goal / purpose of product. What is the vision? What is the anticipated value? (reduced cost, increased revenue, social benefit)

  2. What is the expected lifecycle of the product?

  3. Identify stakeholders / categories of users

  4. Map process (current state or desired)

  5. Context diagram to capture high-level use cases per stakeholder / user category

  6. In / Out list (clarify scope boundary)

  7. Identify integrations

  8. Brainstorm risks

  9. Prioritise features

  10. Release strategy. Does the release need to coincide with some other activity? Are there data or users to be migrated? Can an MVP be published and iterated on?

  11. Development process - including client-side rights and responsibilities
