Wizard Island 2012

We will be camping Friday and Saturday night at sites 87 & 88 on Lake George's Long Island, one of the southernmost islands 4.41 miles by kayak from the Village.

Date Friday September 21st - Sunday September 22nd

Cost $98/person

Limit 8 wizards

Friday: Kayaks, Fireworks and Hot Air Balloons

Meetup

We will be meeting at Logan & Becca's house in Troy, NY at 3PM Friday to check gear, grab any last minute provisions and proceed to Lake George via carpool (a 1 hour drive). You may park your car on 2nd street over the weekend.

193 2nd St (Floor 3)
Troy, NY 12180
603-219-4281

If you can't make it by 3:00PM, let us know and proceed directly to Lake George.

F.R. Smith & Sons Marina
36 Sagamore Road, Bolton Landing, NY 12814

Do not arrive at the lake later than 4:30PM, or you will not have a boat!

The Adventure Begins

Balloon

At 5pm, we will enjoy a beautiful 5 mile kayak journey from the marina to the island. This coincides exactly with the launch of the Adirondack Balloon Festival, so don't be alarmed when 80+ hot air balloons float by overhead.

The sun goes down at 6:55pm, giving us just enough time to set up camp, get a fire going and enjoy the sunset from the beach.

At 8pm, we will paddle back out in the darkness to enjoy the Moonglow & Fireworks show on the lake.

Saturday: The Hague Oktoberfest

Oktoberfest

Saturday morning we'll sleep in and enjoy a proper camp-stove breakfast, and take a refreshing dip in the lake before heading off to The Hague Oktoberfest.

It's too far up the lake to reasonably kayak, so we'll paddle back to the marina and take the cars to enjoy an afternoon of seasonal beers from 12 local breweries, games, music and german festival food on the beach.

We will spend about 4 hours in Hague to allow enough daylight to kayak home before sunset.

Sunday: The Great Escape

When everyone is awake, we'll start packing the boats. Checkout is at 11AM, but we can keep the kayaks all afternoon.

Down at the village, attractions include the Million Dollar Beach, Waterslide World, and The Great Escape (Six Flags), parasailing, horseback riding, shopping and minigolf.

the great escape

If anyone is in the mood for a dayhike instead, there are a number of trails and islands to explore that are only accessible via boat.

hiking

After our 5PM kayak return, we will grab a nice dinner and drive back to Troy. Anyone coming from far away is welcome to crash in Troy for the night before departing.
