lil experiments

Lil experiment about memory

Walk to the closest faucet; open it and close it; walk back

Do it slowly, deliberately, and paying full attention.

Close your eyes and try to relive the situation as accurately as possible.

In particular, visualise the walk from the chair to the sink, as if you were reliving it.

Take a mental note of what you see, then open your eyes.

Spoiler

Only click this at the end

When you were reliving the experience, where was the "camera" placed - ie, which part of your body did you "see" when remembering the walk?

Most people tend to "remember" as if they were following themselves slighty behind, often slightly above, their bodies.

This should give pause to whoever thinks memories are somewhat accurate impressions of an experience, or otherwise "store" sensory data.
