How to rescue your bootlooping LG G7

Didn't bother to read documentation and ended up bootlooping your LG G7 trying to flash roms?

Since LG engineers decided it would be a good idea to not include a key combination for emergency shutdown and instead reboots your device every time you soft or hard reset, here are a couple undocumented key combinations you can use to rescue your bootlooping LG G7.

Booting into Bootloader

The usual method to boot into bootloader is to insert a USB connected to your computer while holding down the Volume Down key on your powered off LG G7. But you can't power down your phone while it's bootlooping.

Instead, you can:

  1. Press and hold the Power key and Volume Down key during the LG/ROM logo.
  2. As soon as the phone's screen turns off, release the Power key (you should only be pressing down on the Volume Down key).
  3. Your phone will boot into bootloader.

Booting into Download Mode

As with the bootloader, download mode is accessed by inserting a USB connected to a computer while holding down the Volume Up key on a powered off LG G7. Of course, you're here because you can't power your LG G7 off.

Instead, you can:

  1. Press and hold the Power key and Volume Down key during the LG/ROM logo.
  2. As soon as the phone's screen turns off, release both keys, and press and hold the Volume Up key.
  3. Your phone will boot into download mode.

Booting into 9008 Mode

This one is tricky. You will need to open up the back of your device.

TO DO: insert image.

Once you open up the back of your device:

  1. Disconnect and reconnect the battery.
  2. Plug in a USB connected to your computer while making contact with the two pins in the image above with a pair of tweezers.
  3. Your phone will boot into 9008 mode.
